No. 14 Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Double OT Draw with Rochester

St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 4, 2015 – The No. 14-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime draw with the University of Rochester in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both teams Sunday at Francis Field in St. Louis.

WashU extended its unbeaten streak to eight games and fell to 6-1-3, 0-0-1 in the UAA, while Rochester dropped to 4-2-3, 0-0-1 in the UAA.

Despite outshooting Rochester 6-3 in the first half, it was the Yellowjackets that scored the lone goal of the half. Andrew Greenway netted his team-leading third goal of the season in the 43rd minute after he corralled a lose ball in the box and beat WashU junior goalkeeper Daniel Geanon.

WashU continued to put the pressure on in the second half, and found away to tie the contest in the 57th minute. Junior Grant Baltes sent a long ball into the box that freshman Marc VandenBerg settled, and then slotted a shot under the keeper into the back of the net. The goal for VandenBerg was his second of the season.

The Bears outshot the Yellowjackets 17-9 for the game, and had a 9-7 advantage in corner kicks. Geanon played all 110 minutes in goal making four saves.

WashU opens a four-game road trip Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Westminster College (8-1). Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: Rochester leads the all-time series with WashU, 15-9-10 … This was the ninth match between the two teams that went to OT …  WashU is 1-0-3 in overtime this season … The Bears remained unbeaten at home with a 2-0-3 mark … The assist for Baltes was his fifth of the season, tied for the UAA lead.
