No. 14 WashU Men's Basketball to Host NCAA Regional This Weekend

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 14 Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team was selected to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7. WashU will face Transylvania at 7:35 p.m. CT on Friday evening and, with a win, would play again on Saturday evening at 7:35 p.m. CT.
 
Joining the Bears in the Field House are UW-Whitewater, Loras College and Transylvania University. The winner of the St. Louis, Mo. bracket will face the winner of the pod hosted by St. Thomas (TX) which also features Belhaven, Trinity (TX) and Whitworth.

Tickets will be $15 for adults and $10 for seniors/students/children under 17. Children two and under are free.
 
Doors open one hour prior to tip-off of first game each day.
 
About the Bears – Schedule | Roster | Stats
WashU enters the tournament with an 18-7 record after finishing the UAA slate with an 8-6 record. The Bears earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, marking the 30th time in program history that Bears have been in the NCAA Tournament.
 
Two players earned All-UAA honors, highlighted by senior Yogi Oliff who was named the UAA Defensive Player of the Year and earned a second team nod. It is the sixth time in program history that a Bear has earned this distinction and the first time since 2023. Sophomore Connor May earned his second-career UAA honor with a spot on the First Team.

May leads the team in scoring with 17.2 points per game and is second among the Bears with 7.0 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in steals (35) and blocks (23). Junior Ryan Cohen is averaging 11.0 points per game and has 34 assists on the year while sophomore Anthony Przybilla is averaging 10.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Oliff leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game and a team-high 102 assists.

Scouting Transylvania – Schedule | Roster | Stats
Transylvania comes into the NCAA Tournament with a 20-8 record after winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC). The Pioneers beat Berea 88-79 in the quarterfinal, Franklin 86-75 in the semifinal and Anderson in the title game, 91-79. It was their first conference title since 2020.
 
Hunter Barr was named the 2026 HCAC Player of the Year as well as the Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to earning a first team all-conference nod. Drew Marshall picked up a second team honor. Additionally, Head Coach Brian Lane was named HCAC Coach of the Year.
 
Barr leads the team in both scoring (19.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg) and has a team-high 52 blocks. Marshall is averaging 13.0 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game with a team-high 119 assists and 43 steals.
 
Scouting Loras – Schedule | Roster | Stats
The Duhawks enter the dance with a 20-7 record after winning the American Rivers Conference. They defeated Coe in a close 72-71 game in the semifinal before defeating Dubuque 83-62 in the championship game to earn the title for the first time since 2024.
 
Four from Loras were named to the American Rivers All-Conference Team. Jack Hayens and Gavin Sarvis both picked up First Team honors while Nolan Berendes was named to the Second Team and Damyen Jackson picked up an Honorable Mention.
 
Haynes leads the Duhawks in both scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounds (9.2 rpg) in addition to 26 steals and 13 blocks. Sarvis is averaging 13.1 points per game to go with 29 steals and 13 blocks. Berendes is averaging 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game with a team-high 34 steals and 17 blocks.
 
Scouting UW-Whitewater – Schedule | Roster | Stats
UW-Whitewater enters the tournament with a 20-7 record and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after falling in the WIAC title game.
 
Collin Madson and Isaac Verges were both selected to the 2026 WIAC All-Conference First Team while Verges was also named to the All-Defensive Team. Richie Warren picked up an Honorable Mention and Head Coach Jarod Wichser was named WIAC Coach of the Year.
 
Madson leads the Warhawks with 18.0 points per game to go with 5.4 rebounds per game as well as 31 assists and 33 steals on the season. Luke Bara is averaging 10.3 points per game in addition to 35 assists on the year while Verges is averaging 10.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game and has a team-high 47 assists.
 
WashU vs. the NCAA Playoff Field
WashU has faced seven NCAA Tournament teams this season, including three from the UAA – NYU, UChicago, NYU, Rhodes, Illinois Wesleyan, St. Thomas (TX) and Hope.

The 2026 Championship
A total of 64 teams will be playing for a chance at a national title, including 43 automatic qualifiers and 21 at-large selections. Sixteen sites will host four teams each for first- and second-round competition March 6-7. Second-round winners will advance to one of eight third-round sites March 13-14. Both weekends' games will be played on campuses of competing institutions. The tournament then shifts to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind. for the quarterfinals March 19, and semifinals March 21. Semifinal winners advance to the championship game, which will be staged at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on April 5.
