ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Annitre Edison, former Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball assistant coach and 1996 graduate of WashU passed away recently.
Edison graduated from WashU in 1996 after playing four years under Hall of Fame Coach Nancy Fahey. In her time as a Bear, Edison was part of three UAA championships and four NCAA
Tournament berths, including an NCAA runner-up finish in 1994.
After graduation, Edison coached several select basketball teams and on the high school level in
Akron, Ohio and St. Louis before joining the Bears' coaching staff.
In her 20 years on staff, the Bears won the 2009-10 Division III National Championship and has
multiple runner-up finishes. Through her time as a player and coach, WashU won 13 UAA titles
and advanced the NCAA Tournament 20 times.
"Annitre to her teammates, Coach E to the many that played for her, was passionate about
WashU Women's Basketball," said Fahey. "For over thirty years, Annitre gave her unlimited time,
energy and love to the many lives she touched. She had a laugh that could fill up a room and an
ability to push us past the "easy" in the weight room and on the court, all bundled up in a
sincere interest in the person off the court. Her loyalty was unmatched. You knew she always
had your back. The Bear Family is heartbroken but will honor her each day by maintaining our
special Bear Family bond she helped build."
