ST. LOUIS, Mo. – With the fall fast approaching, the Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team is still receiving awards for the 2024-25 season. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its NCAA Division III All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes for the 2024-25 academic year with WashU and eight team members being honored.
The Bears as a team maintained a 3.68 GPA for the entire 2024-25 academic year.
The eight scholar-champions that were selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes as part of the organization's announcement were seniors
Scott Yamamoto and
John Fakouri, along with juniors
Colin Fox and
Case Fagan, sophomores
Daniel Radke and
Nathan Tam, and first-years
Drew Koval,
Coleman Merce, and
Avi Mahajan were all honored.
The team award is given to programs with at least a combined 3.2 GPA for the past year. Individual athletes must have maintained a 3.5 GPA for the academic year to be honored as a scholar-athlete.
Last season, the Bears finished with a 13-8 overall record. The Bears finished fifth at the UAA Championships with wins over #33 Brandeis, 4-0, and #24 Carnegie Mellon, 4-2. Four WashU players were selected for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. Junior
Colin Scruggs earned All-American honors in singles after finishing the season ranked No. 20 in the final rankings. Seniors
Stefan Hester and
Pato Garcia Muriel advanced to the national semifinals with a win over the top-ranked team from Denison to earn their All-American honors. As a team, the Bears finished the season ranked #28 in the final team poll.
