No. 5 WashU Men's Basketball to Host 41st Annual Lopata Classic This Weekend

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 5 Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team will host the 41st Annual Lopata Classic Friday, Nov 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15 in the Field House. The Bears welcome Eureka, St. Thomas (TX) and UW-Whitewater.
 
In a new format this year, the Classic will run alongside the women's McWilliams Classic.

About the Bears – Schedule | Roster | Stats
The Bears won their season opener against Carroll, 90-78, on Friday evening.
 
Leading the way was sophomore Connor May, who was named a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American, with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Junior Ryan Cohen scored 14 points and grabbed three rebounds and senior Will Grudzinski netted 14 points and dished out four assists. Senior Calvin Kapral recorded a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.
 
The Bears take on Eureka at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. The winner will move on to the championship game at 4 p.m. on Saturday and the loser will play on Saturday at noon.
 
Scouting Eureka – Schedule | Roster | Stats
No stranger to the Lopata Classic, Eureka last played in the tournament during the 2022-23 season. The Red Devils are 1-1 on the year, winning their season opener at Dominican, 90-85, before falling to Monmouth College, 90-72, on Tuesday.
 
Jaxson Provost is averaging 28.0 points through two games to lead Eureka. Jonah Lauff is averaging 11.5 points per game while both Micah Bruer and Andrew Coker are each averaging 11.0 points per game. Ben Carter leads the team on the boards with 9.0 rebounds per game.
 
Eureka will take on the Bears at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. The winner will move on to the championship game at 4 p.m. on Saturday and the loser will play on Saturday at noon.
 
Scouting UW-Whitewater – Schedule | Roster | Stats
The Warhawks are 1-0 on the year after opening with a 76-58 win over Ripon last Friday evening.
 
Brock Marino led the way for Whitewater with 16 points and six rebounds as well as a block. Isaac Verges scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Collin Madson netted 13 points and pulled down five boards while Jake Quast had 11 points on the day.
 
UW-Whitewater will face St. Thomas in the opening round on Friday evening. The winner will move on to the championship game at 4 p.m. on Saturday and the loser will play on Saturday at noon.
 
Scouting St. Thomas – Schedule | Roster | Stats
The Celts last played in the Lopata Classic during the 2021-22 season, losing 59-51 to the Bears in the final. St. Thomas is 2-0 on the year after winning the season opener 89-55 over the College of Biblical Studies, followed by a win on Tuesday over East Texas Baptist, 72-64.
 
Corey Thompson and Garrett Rodgers lead the Celts with 15.0 points per game. Angel Johnson is averaging 10.5 points per game and has a team-high seven assists on the season. Charles Gitonga and Rodgers lead the team with 6.0 rebounds per game.
