CHARLESTON, Ill. – After over a month layoff from competition, the Washington University in St. Louis men's track and field team traveled to the John Craft Invite hosted by Div. I Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
Several Personal Records (PRs) were broken, and a few all-time bests were recorded in the one-day meet.
No team results/standings were recorded.
Here are some of the top results from Saturday:
- Pole Vault
- Sophomore Peter Lichtenberger took home first place with a height of 4.90m, out leaping second place from EIU by more than half a meter.
- Junior George Bourdier finished tied for second in height, but finished third for the second straight meet with a height of 4.45m.
- Tiebreakers were broken on when an athlete successfully cleared a height attempt.
- High Jump
- Junior Eli Goldman set a PR with a jump of 1.90 meters, breaking his previous mark of 1.88m
- One Mile
- The Bears finished with three of the top five finishers with junior James Corbett taking home first with a time of 4:20.31
- First-year Caleb Brox finished third with a time of 4:23.28.
- Senior Fernando Ribeiro Duraes crossed the line in a time of 4:26.63, finishing in fifth place.
- 60m Hurdles
- First-Year Liam Elliott finished third, behind three Div. II opponents, with a time of 9.02.
- 800m
- It was a one, two, three finish for the Bears with Corbett taking home his second event win of the day with a time of 1:58.87
- He narrowly beat out teammate, junior Brandon Brazil who crossed with a time of 1:59.27.
- First-year Dionte Obertein completed the top sweep with a third place finish in a time of 2:01.94.
- 3000m
- This time it was a two-three finish for WashU with sophomore Conor Daly narrowly missing first place to take second with a time of 8:34.88
- Senior Matthew Hornung was the second Bear and third finisher in the event with a time of 8:36.73.
- 4x400 Relay
WashU will be back on the track next Saturday, Jan. 25 when they travel west this time to take on the competition at the Bob Teel Invitational hosted by Div. I Missouri.
