Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team competed in the 2023 ITA Regionals on Friday, hosted at Tao Tennis Center and Dwight Davis Tennis Center followed by action at Dwight Davis on Saturday and Tao on Sunday.
Doubles
Amber Edmonds and
Eliana Hanna had a bye in the first round and went on to beat Kalamazoo's Maddie Hurley and Juliana Pullen 8-2 in the Round of 32. Edmonds and Hanna moved on to defeat Chicago's Sarena Biria and Brooke Pedersen 8-7 (8-6) in the quarterfinal. The duo ultimately lost to Chicago's Sylwia Mikos and Shianna Guo 8-5.
After receiving a bye in the first round,
Ainsley Heidbreder and
Nina Moravek defeated Wooster's Janaki Jagannathan and Otilia Oita 8-4 in the Round of 32.
Karen Gao and
Eleanor Archer, who also had a bye in the first round, topped Case Western Reserve University's Asha Shukla and Anna Kan 8-7 (7-5) in the Round of 32. The duo fell to Chicago's Rena Lin and Oliwia Mikos 8-0 in the quarterfinal.
Following a bye in the first round,
Carolyn Tsung and
Katherine Johnston defeated Transylvania's Maria Hayes and Ally Rassenfoss 8-0 in the Round of 32. The pair lost to Chicago's Sylwia Mikos and Shianna Guo 8-3 in the quarterfinal.
Main Draw
Johnston defeated Rose-Hulman's Taylor Goldman 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 64 and went on to top Lake Forest's Sophia Strupovets 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 in the Round of 32. She lost to Chicago's Mikos 6-2, 6-1 in the Round of 16.
Edmonds fell to CWRU's Lily McCloskey 6-2, 6-4 in the Round of 64 before defeating Millikin's Cristina Borunda 6-0, 6-0 in the consolation Round of 32. Edmonds then defeated Greenville's Addison Brannon in a walkover and moved on to top Goldman 6-3, 6-1 in the consolation quarterfinal.
Edmonds defeated John Carroll's Madeline Kavenagh 6-2, 6-0 in the consolation semifinal and ultimately won the backdraw, beating Kenyon's Shadia Amado Aguad 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 in the final.
Gao defeated Kalamazoo's Hurley 6-1, 6-3 in the Round of 64 and followed that with a win over Augustana's Anna-Maria Huebel 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 32. She fell to CWRU's Radha Paten 7-6 (11), 3-6, 3-6 in the Round of 16.
Archer defeated Anderson's Ella Frantz 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 64 before taking down Oberlin's Lydia Zafeiri 6-4, 6-1 in the Round of 32. Archer lost to Chicago's Oliwia Mikos 6-2, 6-2.
Moravek beat Principia's Saray Hernandez Cisneros 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 64 and moved on to defeat Greenville's Lanie Carder 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 32. She lost to Kenyon's Eleni Lazaridou 2-6, 6-3, 4-6.
BLUE
After receiving a bye in the first round,
Randi Hendricks went on to defeat Oberlin's Amelia Bronfman 6-3, 6-0 in the quarterfinal. She lost to CWRU's Chloe Ku 6-3, 3-5, 10-4 in the semifinal.
GREEN
Katie Finerman topped John Carroll's Evelyn Deren 8-1 in the Round of 16 and then defeated Wittenberg's Sophia Pischalko 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinal. She lost to CWRU's Elsa Syed 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinal.
RED
Tsung received a bye in the first round and moved on to defeat Earlham's Madisen Cherry 7-5, 6-0 in the quarterfinal. She fell to Chicago's Rena Lin 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinal.
YELLOW
After receiving a bye in the first round,
Emily Chiasson defeated Denison's Caroline Kittle 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinal. She went on to defeat Chicago's Lauren Khou 2-6, 7-5, 10-2 in the semifinal and ultimately lost to Chicago's Brooke Pedersen 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 10-7.
