St. Louis, Mo. – Due to inclement weather, the Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis three-day tournament was stretched out to a four-day event, from Friday-Monday, October 13-16. Three-of-the-four singles draw championship matches were abandoned due to weather. The doubles draw semifinals and finals rounds were concluded at Tao Tennis Center this evening.
Orange – Singles Main Draw
Henri Ohl defeated Paul Castleman 6-1, 7-6(7-2) in the Round of 16 and dropped his quarterfinal match to Ryota Fukushima 6-1, 6-4.
Daniel Radke won his opening round match against Kai Daudsyah 6-1, 6-2 and then defeated Lorenzo Biava in the quarterfinals. However, Radke fell in the semifinals to Ryota Fukushima (7-5, 6-3).
John Fakouri fell to Lorenzo Biava 6-2, 6-4 in the Round of 16.
Colin Scruggs was set to play in the championship match, but the match was not played due to weather. Scruggs beat Eduardo Criscuolo 6-1, 6-2 in the Round of 16. He then took down Juan Suero in the quarterfinals (6-1, 6-1), and bested teammate,
Gaurav Singh, in a 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-3 tight semifinal match.
Singh defeated Jesse Hattrup 6-3, 6-0 in the first round and swept Jonathan Sadowski 6-2, 6-4 to punch his ticket to the semis. Singh ultimately fell to Scruggs in the semifinal round.
Blue – Singles Main Draw
Jared Phillips received a bye in the Round of 16 and moved to the semifinals with a victory of Charlie Sanzo, 6-2, 6-1. In the semifinals, Phillips took down Luca Lo Nardo 7-5, 6-3. Phillips fell just short in the final match against Evan Sharygin 4-5, 4-2(10-3).
Akshay Saluja came out victorious in his Round of 16 matchup against Colton Hulme 6-2, 7-6. Saluja was defeated in the quarterfinal match by Luca Lo Nardo 6-2, 6-0.
Case Fagan won his Round of 16 match against Arhaan Pahwa 0-6, 6-3(10-6). Fagan then had to withdraw due to injury in the quarterfinals.
Yellow – Singles Main Draw
Jeremy Ouyang defeated Alan Walker 6-1, 6-3 in the first round. Ouyang then took down Kylel in the quarterfinals 7-6, 6-3 to punch his ticket to the semifinals. In the final four, Ouyang lost a close match to Theo Ortis 6-4, 7-6.
Nathan Tam won his Round of 16 match against Benjamin Cobin 6-2, 6-1 and cruised past Sansh Kumar (6-3, 6-2) in the quarterfinals. Tam then defeated Lorenzo Del Biondo in the semis to 4-6, 6-1(10-7) advance to the finals match. Due to inclement weather, the finals match was abandoned.
Green – Singles Main Draw
Pato Garcia Muriel slid past Sebastian Munoz in the opening round 4-6, 6-4(10-8) as he advanced to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Garcia Muriel fell to Shaan Patel 7-6, 6-2(10-5).
Scott Yamamoto defeated Drew Bosman in the Round of 16 6-2, 6-0. However, Yamamoto was defeated by Declan Townsend in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 4-6(10-5).
In the first round,
Colin Fox sailed past Joshua Tiemann 6-0, 6-1. Much like the Round of 16, Fox had no trouble in the quarterfinal round as he defeated Maxwell Watchmaker 6-2, 6-0. However, Fox fell to Declan Townsend in the semifinals, 7-5, 2-6(10-7).
Stars – Doubles Main Draw
In the doubles portion of the tournament, Saluja and Ohl defeated Paul Castleman and Drew Bosman, 6-3, to advance to the quarterfinals. Saluja and Ohl were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Seb Holden and Lorenzo Del Biondo, 6-0.
Phillips and Hester received a Round of 16 bye. The duo defeated Jai Patel and Spencer Yamamoto in the quarterfinal, 6-2. The team then took down Seb Holden and Lorenzo Del Biondo in the semifinals to advance to the final match. Phillips and Hester fell in the championship match to fellow Bears, Garcia Muriel and Yamamoto, 8-3.
Radke and Tam also received a first-round bye. Radke and Tam then took down Colton Hulme and Jesse Hattrup in the quarterfinals. The duo dropped its semifinal match to teammates, Garcia Muriel and Yamamoto.
Garcia Muriel and
Scott Yamamoto were on the receiving end of a Round of 16 bye. In the next round, the team narrowly defeated Jose Hernandez Saracho and Juan Suero 7-6(7-4). In the final four, the team took down teammates, Radke and Tam. Garcia Muriel and Yamamoto then played teammates, Phillips and Hester in the final match. Garcia Muriel and Yamamoto went on to win the starts draw, 8-3.
Stripes – Doubles Main Draw
Fox and Singh welcomed a first-round bye. The team ran past Alex Meyer and Kylel Gillam, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. The duo then defeated Max Chen and Shaan Patel in the semifinal round to punch their ticket to the championship match. In the finals, Fox and Singh won the stripes draw after garnering the 8-4 victory over teammates Kuo and Scruggs.
Scruggs and Kuo also received a Round of 16 bye. In the quarterfinals, Scruggs and Kuo enjoyed a 6-0 victory over Drew Bosman and Lorenzo Biava to advance to the semifinals. The team punched its ticket to the finals after taking down Eric Sharygin and
Jeremy Ouyang. Scruggs and Kuo dropped the final match to teammates, Fox and Singh, 8-4.
The Bears will return to the court in February for the spring portion of their schedule.
