Greencastle, Ind. – The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory on the road at DePauw in non-conference play on Saturday.
The Bears collect their first win of the spring season and improve to 1-1 on the year, after putting forth a solid outing.
WashU got off to a good start in doubles play, claiming two of the three points, winning at No. 1 and 2 doubles.
Abhi Ramireddy and Daniel Li, the Bears' top doubles team, who are ranked 13th as a pair nationally, took care of business 8-5.
Jeremy Ouyang and Scott Yamamoto won at No. 2 doubles 8-3 to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
In singles action, it was all WashU, as the Bears swept all six courts and dropped just one set collectively.
Ramireddy pulled out his second victory this spring at the top singles position, winning in straight sets 7-6, 6-3.
Li rallied back to win at No. 2 singles 4-6, 6-4. 10-6 in a back-and-forth battle all afternoon.
Gaurav Singh improved to 2-0 at No. 3 singles, making quick work of his opponent in a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Senior Luke Smith dropped only three games throughout the duration of his match at No. 4 singles, as he won 6-1, 6-2.
Jared Phillips and Lucas Guy won handily at No. 5 and 6 singles. Phillips has yet to drop a set in singles action so far this spring, winning 6-2, 6-0, while Guy recorded his first win at the No. 6 position, 6-0, 6-1.
WashU will next get set for the ITA National Indoor Championships in Cleveland, Ohio from February 25-27.
The Bears will take on Emory, last year's national champion on Friday at 9:00 a.m. EST.
