Chicago, Ill. – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving teams completed day one of the 2022 Midwest Invitational, held at the University of Chicago.
After the first day, the No. 12 women's team sits in third with 27 points and the No. 12 men's team is in third with 97.5.
On the women's side, the Bears are up against Case Western Reserve, UChicago and Lewis University. For the men, it is UChicago, Case, Lewis and Illinois Institute of Technology.
MEN
First-year Jeffrey Forbes finished second in the 500 freestyle, racing to a time of 4:34.99, racking up 17 points. Sophomore Kenneth Yeh finished fifth with a time of 4:44.15. Senior Sam Mahoney claimed ninth with a time of 4:47.10.
Sophomore Austin Bick was the top Bears' finisher in the 200 IM, taking fifth in 1:53.42.
Sophomore Mark Lipkin was the top finisher in the 50 freestyle, taking fourth in 21.49. Sophomore Ryan Wierschem took sixth with a time of 21.61 while first-year Justin Rockaway finished seventh in 21.63.
The Bears had several swimmers complete time trials. Bick swam the 50 freestyle time trial, racing to a time of 20.89 while Rockaway took first in the 200 freestyle time trial in 1:42.04. Sophomore Kyle Wolford finished first in the 100 backstroke time trial with a time of 49.68. Sophomore Alex McCormick raced to a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke time trial with a time of 1:47.66.
WOMEN
Junior Grace Uldrich was the top finisher for the Bears in the 50 freestyle, taking sixth with a time of 25.17. Senior Natalia Castillo took ninth with a time of 25.50.
In the time trials, junior Sam Auditore raced a time of 5:24.17 in the 500 freestyle time trial.
The Bears had four swimmers in the 100 backstroke, led by Kylie Juan in first with a time of 58.36. Sophomore Eve Kearns and Castillo tied for second with times of 58.97 while Uldrich finished fourth with a time of 1:00.41.
Sophomore Abby Liff swam a time of 2:22.47 in the 200 breaststroke time trial.
The Bears are back tomorrow for the second day of the Midwest Invitational slated to start at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
