St. Louis, Mo. – The No. 16 Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team edged local foe Webster, 53-52, on Tuesday evening on the road. The Bears move to 2-1 on the season.

Drake Kindsvater led the Bears with 13 points and six rebounds, marking his third-straight game in double-figures. Graduate student
Charlie Jacob also hit double-digits, registering 10 points to go with four rebounds and two steals.
The Bears started the game up four behind buckets from sophomore
Hayden Doyle and first-year Will Grudzinski. The Bears built up a 10-5 edge with 12:39 on the clock, but the Gorloks hit a layup and Javane Nugent drained a 3-pointer to tie things up at 10 apiece.
WashU held a small lead until Webster tied things up again at 16 and went on to take a 20-16 lead, prompting the Bears to call a timeout. The Gorloks' lead reached six points multiple times and a 3-pointer from Jemard Sykes II with 31 seconds remaining in the first half gave the Gorloks a 32-23 lead heading into halftime.
Webster came out to score the first points of the second half on a fastbreak layup from Jason Coleman.
The Bears cut the lead down to seven points, 34-27, following an offensive rebound and layup from
Jake Wolf and a layup from Kindsvater.
The Gorloks extended their lead back to nine points before a 3-pointer from Jacob sparked a 7-0 run for the Bears. First-year Yogi Oliff laid it in and Kindsvater scored on an offensive putback to close the deficit to two points, 38-36.
Webster brought its lead back up to nine points with 9:40 remaining in the second half, but WashU went on an 11-0 run to take back a small lead.
Oliff stole the ball and Jacob drained a shot from distance before hitting the back end of a pair of free throws. Wolf put in a layup followed by a dunk from Kindsvater off a steal from Doyle. Oliff gave the Bears a 48-47 lead with 6:11 remaining following a steal and a layup. Kindsvater closed out the run with an offensive putback.
With 4:16 on the clock, Alpha Diallo netted a free throw to tie things up at 50-50.
The Bears took a 53-50 lead with 1:15 left with a Jacob 3-pointer. Diallo then netted a layup with 57 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 53-52. Despite efforts on both teams to extend the score, 53-52 would hold until the end, giving WashU the win.
WashU is back in action on Tuesday evening at home against Millikin University at 7 p.m.
