Cross Country Teams Qualify for NCAA National Championship Meet

Indianapolis, Ind. – The Washington University in St. Louis cross country teams each earned an at-large bid to the NCAA National Championship meet, announced this afternoon by the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held this weekend.

The No. 6 women recorded a third-place finish and the No. 26 ranked men's squad placed fifth at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet. Additionally, Sunday's qualifications to nationals mark the 13th consecutive appearance for the men and the ninth straight for the women's team. 

Furthermore, WashU concluded yesterday's meet with 11 total All-Midwest Region honorees, with six women placing inside the top-30 and five men finishing inside the top-35. 

In total, thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top seven-person team automatically qualified from each of the 10 regions, for a total of 10 teams. Twenty-two additional teams were selected at-large. 

Seventy individuals, the first seven student-athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship. 

Olivet College and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority are hosting the championships Nov. 19 at Forest Akers East Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State University in Lansing, Mich. 

The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. eastern, followed by the men's race at Noon eastern. 

A livestream of the championships will occur on www.NCAA.com beginning at 11 a.m. until the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
