Women's Cross Country Collects Runner-Up Finish, Men Place Fifth at UAA Championship

Final Results

Atlanta, Ga. –
The Washington University in St. Louis cross country teams returned to action on Saturday at the UAA Championship in Atlanta at Nash Farm Battlefield in a competitive race on both ends. 
 
The No. 7 ranked women collected a runner-up finish with 46 points, while the No. 12 ranked men placed fifth overall with a total of 92 points. 
 
No. 1 UChicago won the women's race, while No. 10 Emory claimed the men's title. 
 
At the awards ceremony, several Bears were recognized for their great efforts throughout both races. 
 
Four Bears on the women's side were named to the All-UAA teams, as Emily Konkus, Lindsay Ott, and Katie Rector earned All-UAA First Team honors, while Alexandra Blake was named All-UAA Second Team. 
 
The men recorded three All-UAA Second Team honorees with Matthew Hornung, Drew Sidamon-Eristoff, and Jeff Candell. 
 
Furthermore, first-year Katie Rector won UAA Rookie of the Year. 
 
WashU will next compete in the North Central Invitational in Naperville, Ill. on November 3. 
 
Women's Results (6k)
Three Bears finished in the top-10 with senior Emily Konkus earning a runner-up finish overall with a time of 21:34.9. 
 
In sixth place was senior Lindsay Ott, marking a time of 22:02.4 and right behind Ott was Katie Rector in seventh (22:05.0). 
 
Alexandra Blake posted a 14th-place overall finish, crossing the finish line at 22:35.5, marking a new career-best time. 
 
Finishing in spots 18-20 was Ella Behrens, Jillian Heth, and Danielle Schultz. Behrens collected a time of 22:46.6, while Heth finished at 22:50.5 and Schultz registered a mark of 22:53.2. 
 
In addition, Julia Patterson finished in 24th (22:59.6),  Avery McCammon placed 31st in the field (23:15.1), and Marlee Fradkin was 52nd at 23:51.8. 
 
Men's Results (8k)
 
Sophomore Matthew Hornung was the top-finisher for the men's squad, as he ran hard to a 10th-place overall finish (25:05.) 
 
Not far behind Hornung was Drew Sidamon-Eristoff, who also collected a top-15 finish, placing 12th with a time of 25:14.1.
 
Just seconds behind Sidamon Eristoff was senior Jeff Candell, who also earned All-UAA honors with a solid performance and 14th place finish at (25:16.8). 
 
Other Bears who earned points on the day included Alexander Gadin, who finished in 27th (25:40.0) and Thomas Penney in 29th (25:41.4). 
 
Finishing neck-and-neck were Fernando Ribeiro Duraes, who checked in at 33rd overall (25:50.7) and Matt Kusak, who was 35th at 25:50.9. 
 
Additionally, Alexander Evans marked a 39th place overall finish (25:54.7) and Joseph Silagi was 43rd at 26:07.9.
