MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS
Greencastle, Ind. – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving teams defeated DePauw on Saturday afternoon.
The No. 7 men's team defeated the Tigers 209-53 while the No. 12 women's team won 202-85.
Men
WashU won all-but-one race on the day and was led by first-year Jonathan Kim and sophomore Kyle Wolford, who both claimed victory in two individual races.
The Bears opened up the meet going one and two in the 200 medley relay. The team of Wolford, Nathan Katz, Jonathan Ma and Kai Garren won the field with a time of 1:34.01 while the group of Alex McCormick, Kevin Hao, Barclay Dale and Zach Halawa took second in 1:34.62.
Junior Mason Kelber continued to prove himself one of the top distance swimmers, winning the 1,650 freestyle with an NCAA B cut time of 16:11.03. First-year Danny Sibley took second in 16:44.55 while sophomore Brendan Long finished third in 16:59.98 and senior Rick Reinhard placed fourth with a time of 17:15.76.
The Bears claimed the top five spots in the 200 freestyle, led by Ma in first place with a time of 1:43.55. Garren followed in second with a time of 1:45.50 while first-year Pace Edwards finished third in 1:46.30 and first-year Justin Rockaway took fourth with a time of 1:47.14.
Wolford continued the streak for the Bears, winning the field in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.61. McCormick took second after swimming a time of 53.71 while Hao rounded out the top three with a time of 54.18.
Kim claimed the top spot in the 100 breaststroke, winning in 58.55. Nathan Lin finished third with a time of 1:02.23.
Katz, a senior, won the field in the 200 butterfly, racing to a time of 1:54.96. Sophomore Mark Lipkin took second in 1:57.18 while senior Chet Dobson finished third with a time of 1:58.42. Sophomore Matthew Larsen rounded out the top four with a time of 1:59.90.
The Bears took the top three spots in the 50 freestyle, led by Dale, a senior who finished first in 21.78. Sophomore Austin Bick took second with a time of 22.35 while Halawa finished third in 22.58.
Ma was the top finisher for the Bears in the 100 freestyle, taking second with a time of 47.43. Kelber followed in third with a time of 48.16 while Garren claimed fourth in 48.48. Bick rounded out the top five with a time of 50.19.
Wolford won his second individual race of the day, winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.47. First-year Ryan Hillery took second in 1:55.12 while McCormick finished third in 1:57.83. Junior Nolan Shields took fourth with a time of 1:59.43.
Kim followed that up with his second individual win of the day in the 200 breaststroke, winning in 2:07.79. Larsen took second in 2:15.10 while Lin finished fourth in 2:22.99.
First-year Jeffrey Forbes won the field in the 500 freestyle, swimming to a time of 4:49.51. Edwards followed in second with a time of 4:52.19 while Lipkin took third in 4:52.85. Long rounded out the top four with a time of 4:56.44.
A pair of Bears led the field in the 100 butterfly as Dale claimed first in 50.57 while Katz took second with a time of 52.84. Senior Sam Mahoney finished fourth in 54.28.
Hao won his first individual race of the day in the 200 IM, racing to a time of 1:55.54. Hillery finished second in 1:58.82 while Sibley took third in 2:01.09 and Shields finished fourth with a time of 2:01.43.
WashU closed out the day taking the top two spots in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Kelber, Ma, Edwards and Hao finished first with a time of 1:25.85. Bick, Garren, Lipkin and Dale followed in second with a time of 1:26.35.
Women
WashU was led by first-year Alice Han and junior Sandra Meszaros, who both won two individual races.
The Bears opened the day with first and second place in the 200 medley relay. The team of Kylie Juan, Maggie Teng, Meszaros and Lauren Antonowich finished first with a time of 1:48.45 while Abby Wilson, Grace Wakiyama, Grace Carey and Noelle Diclemente took second with a time of 1:50.08.
First-year Riyapreet Sahota won the field in the 1,000 freestyle, racing to a time of 10:56.55. First-year Isabella Barrientos took third in 11:06.45 while first-year Kiara Crumbley rounded out the top five with a time of 11:24.89.
Sophomore Lauren Waire was the top finisher for the Bears in the 200 freestyle, claiming second in 1:59.04. Carey, a senior, took third in 2:02.8 while Diclemente finished fifth with a time of 2:04.03.
The Bears claimed the top four spots in the 100 backstroke, led by Han with a time of 59.80. First-year Caroline Deluca finished second with a time of 1:01.20 while Wilson took third in 1:01.27 and Natalia Castillo took fourth in 1:02.81.
Wakiyama, a senior, led the field in the 100 breaststroke, winning in 1:07.37. Sophomore Abby Liff took second with a time of 1:09.09 while Teng claimed fourth in 1:10.12 and junior Emily Guo took fifth with a time of 1:10.46.
WashU took the top three spots in the 200 butterfly, led by Meszaros who took first with a time of 2:08.02. Junior Mikayla Klein took second in 2:12.17 and Eve Kearns finished third in 2:13.47.
The Bears' top finisher in the 50 freestyle was Diclemente, who took third in 25.45. Junior Kayleigh Lewis rounded out the top five, racing to a time of 25.86.
Antonowich, a first-year, won the field in the 100 freestyle, racing to a time of 54.63. Waire claimed second in 55.40 while Sahota took fourth with a time of 55.90.
Barrientos led the way in the 200 backstroke, winning in 2:11.15. Juan, a sophomore, finished second with a time of 2:12.91 while Castillo finished third in 2:13.67.
Crumbley was the top finisher for the Bears in the 500 freestyle, taking second with a time of 5:28.28. Guo claimed third in 5:29.56 while Lewis took sixth in 5:32.96.
Meszaros claimed her second individual win of the day, racing to a first-place time of 58.12. Antonowich followed in second with a time of 1:00.62 while senior Stephanie Bowater rounded out the top five in 1:05.19.
Han won her second race of the day, the 200 IM, winning the field in 2:12.84. Alice Mao took second with a time of 2:15.46 while Kearns finished fourth in 2:17.50.
In the final race of the day, the 200 freestyle relay, the Bears' team of Meszaros, Sahota, Waire and Wilson finished second with a time of 1:41.09. Antonowich, Diclemente, Lewis and Carey took third in 1:41.11.
In diving action, first-year Noa Miller won the 1-meter with a score of 213.70. Junior Rosie Finglass finished second with 210.15 points.
Finglass claimed first on the 3-meter board, racking up 191.65 points while Miller took second with a score of 164.70.
WashU now takes a break from action to prep for the UAA Championships, which will be held at Emory, from February 9-12.
