Swimming and Diving Downs Rose-Hulman on Senior Day

RESULTS

St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving teams defeated Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon.

The No. 7 men's team beat the Fightin' Engineers 169-103 while the No. 12 women's team won 213-51.

Prior to the meet – the Bears recognized seniors Stephanie Bowater, Grace Carey, Natalia Castillo, Barclay Dale, Chet Dobson, Zach Halawa, Kevin Hao, Nathan Katz, Sam Mahoney, Rick Reinhard, Grace Wakiyama, Abby Wilson and Alexander Zuga.

Women

The Bears opened up the day taking the top three spots in the 200 medley relay. The team of Carey, Wakiyama, Eve Kearns and Wilson won the field with a time of 1:51.16. Kylie Juan, Riyapreet Sahota, Lauren Antonowich and Grace Uldrich finished second in 1:51.70 while Caroline Deluca, Maggie Teng, Bowater and Lauren Waire took third with a time of 1:52.87.

With a quick turnaround, Carey came out to win the 1,000 freestyle, racing to a time of 11:06.53. Abby Hook notched second place in 11:07.10.

WashU claimed the top four spots in the 200 freestyle, led by Noelle Diclemente with a time of 2:01.68. Wakiyama finished second with a time of 2:01.82 while Kiara Crumbley took third in 2:02.75 and Sam Auditore finished fourth in 2:05.89.

Juan led the Bears in the 100 backstroke, racing to a first-place time of 1:00.17. Deluca took second with a time of 1:00.58 while Isabella Barrientos finished third in 1:01.71 and Uldrich claimed fourth in 1:03.10.

WashU took first through fourth in the 100 breaststroke, unchallenged by Rose-Hulman. Abby Liff took first with a time of 1:08.55. Teng finished second in 1:09.19 while Sahota claimed third in 1:09.32 and Alice Mao finished fourth with a time of 1:10.27.

Kearns led the way in the 200 butterfly, winning in 2:09.05. Mikayla Klein took second in 2:10.49 and Antonowich finished third with a time of 2:12.31.

Carey claimed her second individual win of the day in the 100 freestyle, swimming to a time of 54.79. Waire took second in 55.38, followed by Diclemente in third with a time of 57.11 and Uldrich in fourth with a time of 57.23.

In the 200 backstroke, Wilson claimed the top spot with a time of 2:08.43. Alice Han took second in 2:08.63 while Juan finished third in 2:12.27 and Castillo took fourth with a time of 2:14.13.

Wakiyama won the field in the 200 breaststroke, racing to a time of 2:27.17, followed by Sahota in second with a time of 2:29.11. Teng finished third in 2:29.13 while Mao took fourth with a time of 2:29.75.

The Bears swept the 500 yard freestyle, led by Antonowich with a time of 5:16.42. Barrientos took second in 5:20.34 while Klein finished third with a time of 5:28.88.

Crumbley, a first-year, won the 100 butterfly, racing to a time of 1:01.92. Bowater took second in 1:03.56 while Auditore claimed third with a time of 1:07.24.

Mao was the top Bears' finished in the 400 IM, finishing fourth with a time of 4:40.30.

In the final race of the day, the 400 freestyle relay, the Bears team of Klein, Sahota, Castillo and Diclemente took second with a time of 3:41.01.

In diving action, Noa Miller won the 1-meter with a score of 219.20. Junior Rosie Finglass finished third with 170.95 points.

On the 3-meter, Miller claimed first with a score of 222.95 while Finglass finished second with 186.50 points.

Men

The Bears opened up the day with a win in the 200 medley relay, led by the team of Dale, Hao, Jonathan Ma and Kai Garren with a time of 1:33.67. The group of Ryan Hillery, Nathan Lin, Austin Bick and Kyle Wolford took second in 1:38.22.

Junior Mason Kelber won the 1,000 freestyle, racing to a time of 9:39.98. Danny Sibley followed in second with a time of 10:15.10.

First-year Justin Rockaway won the 200 freestyle, swimming to a time of 1:45.00. Hillery, also a first-year, took second in 1:45.09 while Reinhard claimed third with a time of 1:47.08. Kenneth Yeh took fourth in 1:47.56 and Wolford finished fifth in 1:47.96.

Ma won the field in the 200 butterfly, racing to a time of 1:51.26 while Katz took second in 1:55.42. Matthew Larsen claimed fourth with a time of 2:01.27 and Hillery rounded out the top five with a time of 2:05.01.

The Bears' top finisher in the 50 freestyle was Garren, who took second in 21.71. Pace Edwards finished third with a time of 21.91 while Ryan Wierschem took fourth in 22.33.

WashU claimed the top five spots in the 100 freestyle, led by Dale with a time of 46.82. Halawa finished second with a time of 47.96 and Mark Lipkin took third in 48.01. Rockaway and Edwards tied for fourth, racing to a time of 48.30.

The Bears swept the top four spots in the 200 backstroke, led by Alexander McCormick with a time of 1:55.60. Wolford finished second in 1:56.14 while Ma took third in 1:58.02 and Nolan Shields finished fourth with a time of 2:00.72.

Hao led the way for the Bears in the 200 breaststroke, hitting an NCAA B cut of 2:04.03. Katz took second in 2:07.53 while Kelber finished third with a time of 2:11.57.

Garren claimed the top spot in the 500 freestyle, racing to a time of 4:49.21. Brendan Long took second in 4:49.28.

Lin won the field in the 100 butterfly, swimming to a time of 52.90. Wierschem took third with a time of 53.49.

The Bears closed out the day with a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Kelber, Ma, Garren and Bick raced to a time of 3:09.29.

WashU is back in action next Saturday, January 22 with a meet at DePauw at 12 p.m.
