RESULTS
St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving teams defeated University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) on Friday evening at Millstone Pool.
The No. 7 men's team topped the Tritans 144-61 while the No. 12 women's team won 168-62.
Men
The Bears opened the day with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of Kyle Wolford, Kevin Hao, Barclay Dale and Austin Bick won the field with a time of 1:33.42. The WashU quad of Alexander McCormick, Nathan Katz, Nathan Lin and Justin Rockaway finished third with a time of 1:36.29 while the team of Nolan Shields, Matthew Larsen, Ryan Hillery and Ryan Wierschem took fifth in 1:40.72.
Sophomore Brendan Long won the field in the 1,000 freestyle, swimming to a time of 9:59.02, more than seven seconds faster than second place. Kenneth Yeh finished in second with a time of 1:07.15 while senior Rick Reinhard took third in 10:10.37.
The Bears took the top four spots in the 200 freestyle, led by junior Mason Kelber who finished first in 1:41.94. Mark Lipkin took second with a time of 1:44.49, Kai Garren finished third in 1:44.94 and first-year Pace Edwards claimed fourth with a time of 1:45.29.
WashU also took the top four spots in the 50 freestyle. Jonathan Ma won the field with a time of 21.17 and senior Barclay Dale finished second in 21.34. Senior Kevin Hao took third with a time of 21.35 and sophomore Austin Bick took fourth in 21.74.
Katz, a senior, won the 200 IM, claiming the top spot in 1:55.81. Hillery finished second with a time of 1:59.15 while Shields took fourth in 2:00.14.
Ma won his second race of the day in the 100 butterfly, racing to a time of 49.45. Dale finished second with a time of 50.94.
Garren, a first-year, was the top finisher for the Bears in the 100 freestyle, taking second with a time of 47.75. Bick claimed third in 48.23 while Rockway took fifth in 48.89.
Wolford, a sophomore, was the top Bears' finisher in the 100 backstroke, finished second with a time of 52.87. McCormick took third in 53.00 and Shields finished fourth with a time of 55.91.
Kelber claimed his second race of the day, winning the field in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:46.11 Hillery took second in 4:49.26 while First-year Pace Edwards finished third with a time of 4:50.03.
In the final individual race of the day, the 100 breaststroke, Hao led the way with a time of 57.25 while Katz finished second in 58.70. Lin took fourth, swimming to a time of 1:01.20.
The Bears wrapped up the day with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Garren, Ma, Kelber and Zach Halawa raced to a time of 1:25.55. The team of Lipkin, Edwards, Wierchem and Rockaway claimed third with a time of 1:27.61
Women
The Bears opened up the day with a win in the 200 medley relay as the team of Abby Wilson, Grace Wakiyama, Grace Carey and Noelle DiClemente swam to a time of 1:49.68.
First-year Kiara Crumbley was the top Bears' finisher in the 1,000 freestyle, taking second with a time of 11:03.82, just .16 behind first place. Junior Sam Auditore finished third, swimming to a time of 11:32.87.
WashU took the top four spots in the 200 freestyle, led by first-year Lauren Antonowich with a time of 1:56.94. First-year Riyapreet Sahota took second in 1:57.29 while first-year Isabella Barrientos finished third with a time of 1:59.33. Alice Han rounded out the top four with a time of 1:59.67.
DiClemente claimed the top spot in the 50 freestyle, racing to a time of 25.04. Carey, a senior, finished third with a time of 25.39 while Wilson took fourth in 25.51. Mikayla Klein finished fifth in 25.55 while Kyle Juan took sixth with a time of 25.74.
Sophomore Eve Kearns won the field in the 200 IM, swimming to a time of 2:12.53. The Bears also claimed second, third and fourth. Alice Mao took second with a time of 2:13.69 while Wakiyama took third in 2:16.15. Maggie Teng rounded out the top four with a time of 2:17.13.
Kearns also won the 100 butterfly, racing to a time of 57.77. Klein claimed second in 59.82 while Carey finished third with a time of 1:00.13. Antonowich finished fourth with a time of 1:00.34.
DiClemente was the top Bears finished in the 100 freestyle, finishing second with a time of 55.01. Lauren Waire took fourth with a time of 55.14 while Deluca finished fifth in 55.56.
The Bears took the top four spots in the 100 backstroke, led by Han who took first with a time of 59.98. Wilson claimed second in 1:00.10 while Natalia Castillo finished third in 1:01.56 and Barrientos took fourth in 1:02.56.
WashU dominated the 500 freestyle, finishing with the top three spots. Sahota won the field with a time of 5:15.90 while Crumbley finished second in 5:25.55. Abby Hook rounded out the top three with a time of 5:26.17.
In the final individual race of the day, the 100 breaststroke, Wakiyama claimed the top spot with a time of 1:07.00. Teng took second with a time of 1:08.37 while Abby Liff took fourth in 1:08.83 and Mao finished fifth with a time of 1:10.87.
WashU's team of Antonowich, Deluca, Sahota and Klein finished second in the 200 freestyle relay, swimming to a time of 1:41.26. The group of Stephanie Bowater, Grace Uldrich, Juan and Barrientos finished third in 1:41.84 while the team of Hook, Crumbley, Mao and Auditore took fifth with a time of 1:46.05.
In diving action, first-year Noa Miller won the 1-meter dive with a total score of 204.75 while junior Rosie Finglass took second with 151.20 points.
On the 3-meter, Miller won with a score of 176.10 while Finglass took second with 166.05 points.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon against Rose-Hulman at 1 p.m. WashU will celebrate its seniors prior to the start of the meet.
