Chattanooga, Tenn., May 28, 2021 — Washington University in St. Louis senior Ethan Hillis advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket during the opening day of the NCAA Division III Individual Championships Friday at the Champions Tennis Center.
Hillis defeated Scotty Hunter of Christopher Newport 6-0, 6-3 in the opening round before besting Anupreeth Coramutla of Brandeis 6-4, 6-3 in Round 2. He will face Marcos Dias of Southern Virginia at 11 a.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Graduate student Scott Altmeyer also competed in the singles competition, suffering his first singles defeat of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Kam Arturo of Williams.
Altmeyer teamed with sophomore Abhi Ramireddy in the doubles tournament. The WashU duo battled Ben Mitchell and Noah Lilienthal of Wesleyan (CT), eventually falling in three sets 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4.
Altmeyer finished the season with a 14-1 record in singles and a 13-3 mark in doubles. Altmeyer and Ramireddy finished 11-2 as a pair for the season.
