SWIMMING RESULTS | DIVING RESULTS
Granville, Ohio, December 4, 2021 – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving teams wrapped up the 2021 Denison Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The WashU divers also closed out competition at the Grinnell College Pioneer Classic.
Denison Invitational
After the final day of competition, the No. 6 men's team finished in third with 1,484 points while the No. 13 women's team finished fourth with 1,129 points.
Men
Junior Mason Kelber was the top finisher for the Bears in the 1,650 freestyle, finishing in third place with a NCAA B cut time of 15:34.77. First-year Danny Sibley finished in 12th with a NCAA B cut time of 16:07.65 while sophomore Brendan Long finished 14th, also hitting a NCAA B cut with a time of 16:13.13.
In the 200 backstroke, sophomore Kyle Wolford finished in third place with a NCAA B cut time of 1:48.26. Alexander McCormick also hit a NCAA B cut, taking sixth in 1:49.16.
Sophomore Austin Bick was the top finisher for WashU in the 100 freestyle, taking seventh in 45.70. Senior Barclay Dale took ninth, swimming a time of 45.79.
Senior Kevin Hao was the top Bears' finisher in the 200 breaststroke, taking fifth place with a NCAA B cut time of 2:02.71. First-year Jonathan Kim took eighth, also hitting a NCAA B cut time of 2:03.38.
Junior Jonathan Ma finished in second place in the 200 butterfly, swimming a NCAA B cut time of 1:47.51. First-year Ryan Hillery took sixth with a NCAA B cut of 1:49.37 while senior Nathan Katz finished eighth with a NCAA B cut time of 1:50.35.
The Bears wrapped up the meet with a sixth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Michael Kincheloe, Pace Edwards, Ryan Wierschem and Zach Halawa raced to a time of 3:04.85.
Women
In the opening race, the 1,650 freestyle, first-year Kiara Crumbley was the top finisher for the Bears, taking eighth with a time of 18:13.29. Junior Sam Auditore took ninth with a time of 19:03.50.
In the 200 backstroke, senior Abby Wilson was the top finisher for WashU, racing to a third-place time of 2:01.63 and hitting a NCAA B cut. First-year Alice Han took ninth with a time of 2:06.33.
The top finisher for the Bears in the 100 freestyle was Noelle Diclemente, who finished 16th with a time of 52.78. First-year Lauren Antonowich finished 18th with a time of 53.00.
In the 200 breaststroke, senior Grace Wakiyama was the top finisher for the Bears, taking sixth overall with a NCAA B cut time of 2:21.13. Junior Max Teng finished ninth, swimming to a time of 2:24.36.
Junior Sandra Meszaros was the top finisher for WashU in the 200 butterfly, swimming a NCAA B cut time of 2:04.16. Sophomore Eve Kearns finished in eighth with a time of 2:05.64.
WashU closed out the day with a sixth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Riyapreet Sahota, Antonowich, Diclemente and Meszaros swam a time of 3:30.98. The group of Caroline Deluca, Kayleigh Lewis, Isabella Barrientos and Grace Carey finished seventh with a time of 3:32.55.
Grinnell Invitational
First-year Noa Miller took second on the 1-meter, tallying 352.05 points, just three shy from first place. After winning the 3-meter yesterday, junior Rosie Finglass took fourth on the 1-meter, racking up 335.40 points.
The Bears now break for the rest of December before returning to competition on Saturday, January 8 at McKendree. WashU is home on Friday, January 14 against UMSL and Saturday, January 15 against Rose-Hulman.
