SWIMMING RESULTS | DIVING RESULTS
Granville, Ohio, December 3, 2021 – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving teams continued competition at the 2021 Denison Invitational while the Bears' divers headed to Grinnell for the Pioneer Classic.
Denison Invitational
After the second day of the Denison Invitational, the No. 6 men's team is in third place with 931 points while the No. 13 women's team is in fourth place with 721 points.
Men
In the first race of the day, the 200 medley relay, the team of Kyle Wolford, Kevin Hao, Barclay Dale and Jonathan Ma took fifth with a NCAA B cut time of 1:29.98. The group of Alexander McCormick, Jonathan Kim, Mason Rhode and Nathan Lin finished sixth, swimming a time of 1:32.76.
Senior Nathan Katz was the top WashU finisher in the 400 IM, taking second with a NCAA B cut time of 3:54.42. First-year Ryan Hillery finished seventh with a NCAA B cut time of 3:58.52.
Dale, a senior, was the top finisher for the Bears in the 100 butterfly, taking third after swimming to a time of 48.67. Ma took fifth with a time of 48.80.
Junior Mason Kelber finished third in the 200 freestyle, swimming a NCAA B cut of 1:37.88. First-year Pace Edwards took sixth with a time of 1:39.20.
Hao, a senior, was the top finisher for the Bears in the 100 breaststroke, taking sixth with a time of 56.24. Kim, a first-year, took eighth with a time of 56.52.
In the final individual race of the day, the 100 backstroke, McCormick, a sophomore, was the top WashU finisher, taking sixth with a time of 50.06.
The Bears closed out the day with a fourth-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay. The team of Hillery, Edwards, Mark Lipkin and Kelber swam to a NCAA B cut time of 6:40.42.
Women
The team of Abby Wilson, Grace Wakiyama, Sandra Meszaros and Grace Carey opened the day with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay after swimming a NCAA B cut time of 1:43.41.
Sophomore Eve Kearns was the top finisher for the Bears in the 400 IM, taking 14th overall with a time of 4:38.21.
Meszaros was the top WashU finisher in the 100 butterfly, finishing third with a NCAA B cut time of 55.39. Carey finished ninth overall with a time of 57.50.
In the 200 freestyle, first-year Isabella Barrientos was the top Bears' finisher, taking 18th overall with a time of 1:55.85.
Wakiyama, a senior, was the top finisher for WashU in the 100 breaststroke, taking sixth place with a time of 1:04.98. Junior Max Teng won the B final for 10th place overall with a time of 1:05.23.
In the 100 backstroke, Wilson, a senior, led the Bears with a fourth-place finish, swimming a NCAA B cut time of 56.24.
WashU's team of Riyapreet Sahota, Barrientos, Antonowich and Lauren Waire closed out the day with a fourth-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay, swimming to a time of 7:45.11.
The Bears close out the Denison Invitational tomorrow with a 10 a.m. preliminary start and 6 p.m. finals start.
Grinnell Pioneer Invitational
Junior Rosie Finglass won the 3-meter board, racking up 356.20 points. First-year Noa Miller finished 10th with a score of 262.15.
The divers will conclude competition at the Pioneer Invitational tomorrow.
