Swimming and Diving has Strong Showing at Mizzou Showdown

Columbus, Mo., October 1, 2021 – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving teams competed at the University of Missouri's Show-Me Showdown on Friday afternoon.

The men's team finished third with 372 points while the women's team took fourth with 375 points. Mizzou took first and Lindenwood finished second on both sides.

Women

In the first race of the day, the 200 medley relay, the team of Caroline Deluca, Grace Wakiyama, Grace Carey and Noelle Diclemente were the top finishers, clocking a time of 1:50.40.

Alexis Hernandez-Flores was the top WashU finisher in the 200 freestyle, taking 13th place with a time of 2:00.94. Isabella Barrientos was right behind her in 14th with a time of 2:01.04.

Eve Kearns was the top finisher for the Bears in the 200 IM, clocking a time of 2:15.33 for eighth place. Mizzou's Katrina Brathwaite won in 1:57.75.

The top WashU finisher in the 50 freestyle was Diclemente, who finished 12th with a time of 25.00. Mizzou's Sarah Thompson won in 22.11.

Sandra Meszaros finished seventh in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.31 to lead the Bears in that event. Mizzou's Meredith Rees won in 54.22.

The top finisher for the Bears in the 100 freestyle was Riya Sahota, who took 16th with a time of 55.43. Mizzou's Molly Gowans won the field in 49.40.

Meszaros was also the top finisher for WashU in the 500 freestyle, finishing 11th overall with a time of 5:21.90. Barrientos took 12th with a time of 5:22.20.

The team of Kylie Juan, Abby Wilson, Kayleigh Lewis and Stephanie Bowater finished sixth in the 200 freestyle relay, racing to a time of 1:42.82.

Wilson was the top finisher for the Bears in the 100 backstroke, taking 12th with a time of 58.98. Carey finished 14th in 59.89.

WashU had two swimmers finish in the top 10 in the 100 breaststroke as Wakiyama took sixth in 1:07.74 and Sahota finished seventh with a time of 1:08.25.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Lauren Antonowich, Meszaros, Sahota and Lauren Waire were the top finishers for WashU, taking sixth with a time of 3:39.85.

On the diving side, Roslyn Tischke finished third on the 1-meter with a score of 224.60. Rosie Finglass took fifth with 195.65 points while Noa Miller claimed ninth with a score of 144.05.

Finglass was the top WashU finisher on the 3-meter board, taking fourth with 211.10 points. Miller finished fifth with a score of 190.20 and Tischke took seven with 183.65 points.

Men

In the opening race of the day, the 200 medley relay, WashU's team of Kyle Wolford, Kevin Hao, Barclay Dale and Austin Bick finished fourth in 1:34.71. The Bears' team of Alex McCormick, Jonathan Kim, Mason Rhode and Ryan Wierschem also finished in the top ten, taking ninth in 1:37.69.

WashU had three swimmers among the top 10 in the 200 freestyle, led by Mason Kelber who finished sixth in 1:43.97. Kai Garren and Ryan Hillery tied for seventh place with a time of 1:44.69.

In the 200 IM, Kim was the top finisher for the Bears, finished 10th with a time of 1:58.36. Mizzou's Freddie Rindshoej won in 1:48.26.

Dale raced to a time of 21.23 in the 50 freestyle to take sixth to lead the Bears in that event. Michael Kincheloe finished 11th with a time of 21.62.

Dale was also the top finisher for WashU in the 100 butterfly, taking sixth after clocking a time of 49.65. Nathan Katz finished 12th in 52.29.

In the 100 freestyle, Hao was the top finisher for WashU, taking ninth with a time of 46.80. Garren claimed 10th in 47.38 while Hillery took 12th with a time of 47.62.

Kelber led the Bears in the 500 freestyle, taking fifth overall with a time of 4:45.81. Katz rounded out the top 10, clocking a time of 4:51.49.

WashU's 200 freestyle relay team of Garren, Kincheloe, Ethan Woolbert and Justin Rockaway finished fifth with a time of 1:27.15. The team of Nathan Lin, Zach Halawa, Brendan Long and Rick Reinhard took 10th in 1:31.29.

The top finisher for the Bears in the 100 backstroke was McCormick, who took 11th with a time of 52.72 while Wolford claimed 12th in 52.77.

Hao was the top WashU finisher in the 100 breaststroke, claiming eighth in 57.33. Kim finished 13th with a time of 59.19. Mizzou's Danny Kovac won in 53.55.

Closing out the swimming portion of the day, the team of Kelber, Mark Lipkin, Pace Edwards and Jonathan Ma finished seventh in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:12.65.

On the diving side, Elliot Polikowski finished seventh on the 1-meter, racking up 154.35 points.

The Bears are back in action on October 30 as they host Chicago at 1 p.m. at Millstone Pool.
