St. Louis, Mo., Dec. 4, 2019 – The No. 10-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team closed out a five-game homestand with an 80-55 win over Rhodes College Wednesday at the WU Field House in St. Louis.

WashU won its fifth-straight game to improve to 7-1, while Rhodes dropped to 3-5. The win for the Bears was their 11th-straight at home dating back to last season. 

Junior Jack Nolan had a game-high 18 points on 6-of-9 three-point shooting, while freshman Nate Bloedorn and seniors Hank Hunter and Matt Nester each had 12 points. The 12 points for Bloedern were a career-high.

WashU shot 46.5 percent (33-71) from the field and hit 12-of-33 from three-point range. The 33 attempts were four shy of the school record. The Bears outrebounded Rhodes 53-26 and had a season-high 21 assists.

Rhodes jumped out to a 10-2 advantage early in the contest, but the Bears responded with a 9-0 run of their own to get the lead back at 11-10. Nolan hit back-to-back threes and junior Payden Webb canned a corner three. 

The Bears went on a 14-0 run late in the first half to take a 20-point advantage (42-22). Nester had a pair of threes, and finished the first half with 12 points on 4-of-6 three-point shooting as WashU led 42-26.

Nolan hit his third three of the game with 17:12 left to increase the lead to 53-30, and then his fourth triple made it 58-34. The lead grew to 31 (71-40) with 10:28 to play on a jumper by sophomore Charlie Jacob.

Preston Giroux led Rhodes with 11 points. The Lynx shot 35.8 percent (19-53) from the field, and hit just 4-of-17 from three-point range.

WashU opens a three-game road swing at Fontbonne on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m.
