  • Student-athletes are expected to approach their time in sports performance with the same focus and discipline that they approach competitions and practices.
  • All student-athletes are to conduct themselves with class, dignity and consistency in the Sports Performance Center (SPC). This includes a positive attitude, appropriate language and appropriate topics of conversation.
     
  • Student-athletes are to be on-time for training sessions. If this is not possible due to circumstances, the athlete should inform the sports performance coach prior to the session through email, phone, or in person (e.g. NOT through a teammate).
     
  • All student-athletes are to follow the following dress code guidelines when training in theSPC:
    • Hats (of any kind) are not permitted.
    • Shirts with sleeves must be worn
      • Short or long sleeves are permitted; cut-offs and tank tops are not. You must be able to tuck in your shirt (No crop tops).
      • Shirts shouldbe WASHU colors (primarily red) -OR- neutral colors (i.e.,black, grey, white).
      • Shirts should have WASHU logos (encouraged but not required). School/Team logos that are not WASHU are not permitted. You will be asked to change or turn inside out.
      • Athletes are requiredto wear shorts, leggings, spandex, or sweatpants.
      • Shoes must be closed-toed tennis shoes with laces. Weight-lifting shoes are permitted. Athletes may perform some lifts in their bare feet; This may only be directed and approved by a sports performance coach.
      • NOTE: We are developing into a WashU gear only environment. Please help our department by allocating appropriate clothing for training whenever possible.
         
  • If injured, athletes are expected to train around injuries unless specifically instructed to cease physical activity by a WASHU athletic trainer or an appropriate physician. This is important for optimum recovery and an appropriate transition back to competition. Communicate with your sports performance coach to review which exercises are appropriate.
     
  • All athletes are to perform their specific lift program and exercises only. Any alternative exercises or workouts should be discussed with and approved by the sports performance coach.
     
  • General hours of operationare Monday through Friday from 6am until 6pm (doors open-doors close). All athletes are to be accountable to their sports performance coach for a training time. Athletes that show-up at unscheduled times may not be permitted to train in the SPC.
     
  • Everyone is expected to clean up and return their weights and equipment to their proper storage place. The SPC is a work room and a showroom! Say "Thank you!" to your sports performance coach by cleaning up your training area properly. All training plates should be positioned with logo/text upright on the storage bars at every rack, barbells inside the rack at 17, benches centered and lined up to the front of the rack, and cable columns elevated to the top position.
     
  • Under NO circumstance is any equipment to be removed from the sports performance center without a sports performance coach's approval.
     
  • Headphones/earbuds are not allowed while using the SPC. Student-athletes may only play clean music
    • i.e., no foul language, racial slurs, or inappropriate content.
       
  • Athletes in a "Try-out" period are not permitted to use the SPC.
     
  • Only current Washington University Student-Athletes, and sports performance coaches are permitted to use the WASHU Sports Performance Center.
