St. Louis, Mo. – Washington University in St. Louis Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the John M. Schael Director of Athletics
Anthony J. Azama along with Chancellor Andrew D. Martin
and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Dr. Anna Gonzalez unveiled the brand new Sports Performance Center on Wednesday morning.
"The new state-of-the-art Sports Performance Center is evidence of the Chancellor's and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs' commitment to Healthy Excellence," said Azama. "This resource will impact generations of future WashU student-athletes who want to become and graduate scholar-champions. What a complete game changer!"
The SPC – which was announced in the spring – is a 7,000-square foot facility designed by Hastings and Chivetta Architects in St. Louis. The facility features 16 Samson rack stations, Intek plates and bars, dumbbells ranging from five to 130 pounds, a 30-by-5 yard turf flooring area, one belt squat lifting machine, nine glute/hamstring machines, medicine balls, five plyo box sets and 16 slide boards.
Additionally, the SPC has state-of-the-art Perch technology which measures multiple data points based around velocity and power. This will allow the sports performance team to quantify weight room performance and drive intent and competition within each team's session.
The space also has a state-of-the-art air conditioning system that uses a desiccant wheel to remove humidity, save energy and make it comfortable for up to 80 athletes. There are also eight large-screen monitors, backpack cubbies and a nutrition cooler.
