DANVILLE, Ky. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Centre 4-2 on the road on Friday evening. The Bears are now 9-0 on the year heading into UAA play next weekend.
Sophomore
Heidi Fesler netted the first goal of the game just 1:31 in, marking her second goal of the season.
Centre evened the score in the 10
th minute when Zara McCarthy scored. It was the first goal of the year scored against the Bears.
Junior
Cami Colpitts scored her sixth goal of the year to put WashU ahead in the 27
th minute.
Less than four minutes later, Centre's Aida Bell scored on a pass from McCarthy for a 2-2 game.
In the 35
th minute, junior
Olivia Clemons scored the eventual game-winner, putting in a pass from senior
Sophie Viscovich for a 3-2 lead.
Clemons added an insurance goal in the 84
th minute, scoring on a pass from sophomore
Monica Morales-Martinez. It marks Clemons' team-leading seventh goal of the year.
As a team, the Bears recorded 32 shots with 11 on goal, while Centre had five shots with three on goal. WashU edged Centre 7-5 on corner kicks.
Clemons registered seven shots with four on goal while junior
Emily Fox also had seven shots with one on goal.
WashU begins UAA play next Saturday, October 3 with a 2:30 p.m. ET game at Brandeis.
