WashU Football Announces 2026 Captains

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis football team, which received votes in the AFCA and D3football.com preseason poll, announces its four captains for the 2026 season.

Seniors Joy Chane, Makael Carter, Levi Moore and Spencer Snipe will lead the Bears as they set out in a new conference, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

Chane was the top tackler for the Bears as a junior, racking up 71 total tackles including 39 solo and 32 assists. He also had 6.0 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, three interceptions, three pass breakups and one forced fumble. Chane is a two-time All-CCIW honoree, garnering a first-team defense nod as a junior.

Carter, an All-CCIW First Team Offense selection a season ago, led the Bears' receivers with 48 catches for 755 yards, scoring eight touchdowns. In the game against Carroll, Carter set a new program record for kickoff return for a touchdown, running 98 yards.

This marks Moore's second year in a row captaining the Bears. As a junior starting quarterback, Moore went 147-246-8 on the year, throwing for a total of 1,853 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also led WashU's rushing game with 659 yards on 113 attempts, scoring 17 touchdowns. Last season, Moore was named All-CCIW Second Team Offense.

Snipe totaled 37 total tackles last season with 14 solo and 23 assists. Additionally, he had 2.5 tackles-for-loss, two quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery.

The Bears open the season on Saturday, September 5 at Rhodes at 7 p.m. before hosting DePauw on Saturday, September 12 at 1 p.m. at Francis Olympic Field for Alumni Day. A full WashU football preview will be released on Wednesday, August 2.
