ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis softball team will host its third-straight NCAA Regional this weekend at the WashU Softball Field, beginning Thursday, May 14 and running to Saturday, May 16. It marks the program's 19th NCAA Tournament appearance.
 
Joining the Bears are UW-Oshkosh, Illinois College and Capital for the three-day, double-elimination regional. The winner of the this regional will go on to play the winner of the Belhaven regional (Belhaven, Westminster PA, Emory, Berry) in next weekend's Super Regional.

Parking - MAP
Parking will be significantly impacted this weekend due to Commencement ceremonies occurring at the Athletic Complex and Francis Olympic Field. Therefore, allow extra time as there will be increased traffic around campus. We will be utilizing an overflow parking lot at the Fontbonne Campus for event parking. Parking is free.

About the Bears – Schedule | Roster | Stats
The WashU softball team won its second-straight UAA title over the weekend, beating Emory 6-0 in the winner-take-all third game of the series. It is the first time the Bears have won back-to-back softball titles since 2014/2015. WashU is currently 28-5-1 on the year and finished the UAA schedule with a 15-3 record.
 
On Tuesday, the UAA announced its All-Association team and the Bears had six players and the coaching staff honored. Junior Maria Brooks became the second person in program history to earn UAA Pitcher of the Year honors and picked up a first team nod for the third time in her career. First-year Julia Sullo earned Rookie of the Year honors and was also named to the first team. Junior Kennedy Grippo also earned a spot on the first team while senior Alexa Hanish, sophomore Harper Nix and first-year Jessi Szafoni were all named to the second team.
 
Sullo leads the Bears at the plate with a .473 batting average and 53 hits. She's scored 39 runs and drove in 24 RBI, starting 32 of 34 games played. Notably, earlier this season, Sullo broke the program and conference single-season steals record and now has 45 on the year. Hanish has a .385 batting average with 25 hits including seven doubles to go with 17 RBI and 12 runs scored. Grippo has a .383 batting average with 36 hits including five doubles.
 
Brooks is the top pitcher for the Bears and the UAA with a 1.34 ERA. She has a 16-0 record, making 18 appearances with 13 starts. Brooks has pitched 109.1 innings with 112 strikeouts. Szafoni has a 1.56 ERA with a 7-3 record after making 16 appearances with nine starts. She has struck out 42 batters.
 
Scouting UW-Oshkosh – Schedule | Roster | Stats
The Titans enter the NCAA Tournament with a 30-8-1 record and earned an at-large bid after falling in the WIAC Tournament semifinal. UW-Oshkosh won the regular-season WIAC title.
 
Olivia Ullman leads the Titans at the plate with a .370 batting average, racking up 47 hits with 11 doubles, three triples and one home run. She has 16 RBI and has scored 32 runs. Olivia Baugnet has a .369 batting average with 31 hits, three RBI and 13 runs scored.
 
In the circle, Kiran Sanford, who was named to the NFCA NCAA Division III Pitcher and Player of the Year Watchlist earlier this season, has a 16-3 record with 24 appearances and 20 starts. She has a 1.32 ERA with 10 complete games, six shutouts and 152 strikeouts in 122.0 innings pitched. Grace Nardi has a 1.41 ERA with a 9-1 record in 19 appearances and 14 starts. She's pitched 74.2 innings with 75 strikeouts.
 
WashU has played Oshkosh just twice in program history, most recently in 2011 when the Bears won 4-1.
 
Scouting Illinois College – Schedule | Roster | Stats
Illinois College enters the NCAA Tournament with a 33-10 record after winning the MWC Conference Tournament title for the first time since 2022. The Lady Blues also won the MWC regular-season title.
 
Five Lady Blues earned All-MWC honors this season, headlined by Jordan Closs who was named MWC Pitcher of the Year and a first team selection. Ezzy Mauermann, Gabby Miller and Cambria Currie were also named to the first team and Maddie Adams picked up a spot on the second team.


Mauermann leads the team with a .408 batting average, playing and starting in 43 games. She has 42 hits with six doubles, two triples and a team-high eight home runs. She has also stolen 20 bases in 20 attempts, driven in 28 runs and scored 40 runs. Currie has a .397 average with 29 hits with three doubles and two triples. She has played in 33 games with 24 starts, scored 19 runs and recorded 12 RBI.
 
In the circle, Closs has a 1.67 ERA with a 15-4 record, making 24 appearances with 22 starts. She's pitched 15 complete games with eight shutouts in 125.2 innings pitched. Closs has struck out 102 batters on the season.
 
The Bears and Illinois College opened the season with a doubleheader back in February, with the Bears sweeping (8-1, 3-2).
 
Scouting Capital – Schedule | Roster | Stats
The Comets are currently 21-17 entering the NCAA Tournament and earned the OAC automatic bid with a 7-2 win in the title game over Heidelberg. It was the first OAC title for Capital since 1997 and this will be the first NCAA appearance since 2013.
 
Three from Capital earned All-OAC honors this year. Kyleigh Kirby and Autumn Bridges were both named to the second team while Addi Parker received an honorable mention.
 
Kirby leads the Comets at the plate with a .358 batting average, playing and starting in all 38 games. She has 44 hits with two doubles, three triples and a team-best six home runs to go with 31 RBI and 31 runs scored. Shelby Allen has a .345 average with 30 hits including a team-high nine doubles to g with 15 RBI and 18 runs scored.
 
In the circle, Alyssa Miller has a 10-6 record with 22 appearances and 16 starts. She's pitched four complete games with an ERA of 3.60. Miller has struck out 112 batters and pitched 101.0 innings. Parker has a 3.73 ERA with a 5-4 record, making 27 appearances and 14 starts. She has struck out 34 batters.

The Bears have never faced Capital in softball.

The 2026 Championships
The 2026 Division III Championship bracket features 64 teams with 42 automatic qualifiers and 22 at-large bids. Beginning Thursday, May 14, a national champion will be crowned on Wednesday, June 3 at Moyer Sports Park in Salem, Virginia.
