No. 2 WashU Women's Tennis Defeats Rochester 4-0 in Opening Match of UAA Championships

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated Rochester 4-0 in the quarterfinal of the UAA Championships on Friday morning, held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The match was played to decision.
 
Doubles
Sophomore Sam Slowik and first-year Lily Brecknock won the first doubles match of the day, beating Lilly Caldwell and Esther Wang 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
 
No. 2 junior Eleanor Archer and sophomore Caitlin Bui beat Jasmin Toor and Sanjana Karnam 6-1 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Bears.
 
No. 6 senior Eliana Hanna and sophomore Ally Lin were up 4-2 over Neha Dania and Lauren Kallas at No. 2 doubles but the match went unfinished when WashU clinched the doubles point.
 
Singles
Brecknock won the first singles point, defeating Dania 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
 
Senior Nina Moravek picked up the second singles point, defeating Kallas 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
 
No. 44 Lin clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Toor at No. 3 singles.
 
No. 15 Archer won the first set at No. 1 singles against Katie Yang 6-3 and was up 3-0 when the match was clinched.
 
No. 17 Bui won the first set 6-1 and was up 5-1 over Hailey Kornbluth at No. 2 singles.
 
Senior Amber Edmonds beat Karnam 6-0 in the first set at No. 4 singles and was up 4-1 in the second set.
 
The Bears will play No. 8 Emory, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. ET in the semifinal match. The winner will move on to play in the championship match on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET.
