Bear Beats: Episode 27, For Competition Through Mar. 9

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The 27th episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball, and golf.

On the horizon:
 
No. 2 Women's Tennis
  • The Bears are on their annual Spring Break Trip with this year the team traveling to Hilton Head Island, S.C.
  • WashU will play four matches in the Palmetto State beginning with Rhodes on Tuesday, Mar. 10 at 10 a.m. ET.
  • On Wednesday, Mar. 11, the Bears will take on No. 5 Emory at 10 a.m. ET
  • On Thursday, Mar. 12, WashU faces No. 4 Wesleyan at 12 p.m. ET
  • Their final match will be on Sunday, Mar. 15 when they take on Babson at 9 a.m. ET before returning to St. Louis.
 
No. 2 Women's and No. 11 Men's Indoor Track & Field
  • WashU will be competing at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend on Friday, Mar. 13 and Saturday, Mar. 14. At the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
  • The Bears will send 15 women and 11 men to compete for a national championship.

No. 7 Golf
  • The Bears are in Savannah Ga. this week for the Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry at The Club of Savannah Harbor.
  • The 36-hole event is taking place on Monday, Mar. 9 and Tuesday, Mar. 10.

No. 12 Baseball
  • WashU will begin the week with its final road non-conference contest of the season on Tuesday, Mar. 10 against Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, Ind.
  • The single game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
  • The Fightin' Engineers enter with a 5-3 record after dropping a doubleheader on Sunday against No. 3 Denison.

  • The Bears will then host a three-game weekend series beginning on Friday, Mar. 13 against Transylvania.
  • The Bears and Pioneers will play one game each day this weekend with Friday and Saturday's games starting at 2 p.m. and Sunday's contest starting earlier at 12 p.m.

No. 14 Men's Basketball
  • WashU is headed to the Sweet 16 for the third year in a row and will travel to St. Thomas (TX) for the match up.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT in Houston, Texas.
  • St. Thomas enters the contest ranked No. 3 in the final NPI rankings before the tournament.
  • The Celts are 28-1 on the season with their lone loss in the 41st Annual Lopata Classic to WashU, 54-53 on Nov. 15.

  • The winner will advance to the Elite 8 in Indianapolis, Ind. the following weekend.
 
No. 15 Women's Basketball
  • WashU is back in the Sweet 16 for the first time since the 2018-19 season after defeating SUNY Geneseo in the First Round and No. 16 Ohio Wesleyan in the Second Round.
  • The Bears will travel to No. 2 Wis.-Oshkosh for a matchup on Friday, Mar. 13 at 8 p.m.
  • The Titans enter the contest with a 26-3 record after defeating Webster in the First Round and (RV) Wisconsin Lutheran in the Second Round.
  • The two teams have not played each other since the 2023-24 season with UWO claiming a 73-60 win at the Field House.

  • The winner will take on the winner from the No. 7 Hope vs. No. 21 Chicago matchup.
  • That game will take place on Saturday, Mar. 14 at 8 p.m. with a spot in the Final Four in Salem, Va. on the line.
 
No. 15 Men's Tennis
  • WashU is in Texas this week for its annual Spring Break Trip.
  • The Bears begin with a pair of matches on Monday, Mar. 9 against No. 14 Trinity (TX) at 10 a.m. before closing out the day with a match against Div. II St. Mary's (TX) at 3 p.m.
  • On Wednesday, Mar. 11 WashU will face No. 9 Swarthmore at St. Stephen's HS in Austin at 10 a.m.
  • Thursday, Mar. 12 will see the Bears take on UAA opponent No. 3 Case Western Reserve on the campus of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas at 10 a.m.
  • WashU closes out the trip with a pair of matches on Friday, Mar. 13 starting with No. 36 Southwestern (TX) at 2 p.m. and follow up with Concordia University Texas at 5 p.m.
 
No. 18 Softball
  • WashU, off to its hottest start since the 2016 season, is in Texas this week for Spring Break and will play four games on the road.
  • On Wednesday, Mar. 11, the Bears will face off against the No. 5 Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in Seguin, Texas.
  • This will be the first matchup with TLU.

  • WashU will have a day break before traveling to take on Trinity (TX) in San Antonio on Friday, Mar. 13.
  • The doubleheader with the Tigers begins at 11 a.m.
  • This will also be the first matchup with the Tigers.
