ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team, which checked in at No. 24 in the NFCA/GoRout Division III
Preseason Top 25, begins its season on Saturday with a doubleheader against Illinois College at home. The Bears are coming off a big 2025 campaign in which they won the UAA title for the first time since 2017.

All the Bears' home games at the WashU Softball Field as well as all away UAA games will be streamed exclusively through FloSports. This year, the UAA and FloSports entered an exclusive, five-year media rights agreement to stream all UAA competition.

Following opening weekend against Illinois College, the Bears welcome Wartburg, Greenville and Millikin February 21-22 for a round robin. WashU hosts Wartburg on Saturday, February 21 at 1 p.m. followed by Greenville at 3 p.m. The next day, Sunday, February 22, the Bears take on Wartburg again at 1 p.m. followed by Millikin at 3 p.m.
Moving into March, WashU hosts Grinnell for a double-header on Sunday, March 1 at 12/2 p.m. and then hosts another round robin the following weekend, March 7-8, as the Bears welcome Rhodes and UW-Whitewater. WashU hosts No. 11 UW-Whitewater on Saturday, March 7 at 11 a.m. followed by Rhodes at 1 p.m. The next day, the Bears play UW-Whitewater at 1 p.m. and Rhodes at 3 p.m.
From there, WashU heads on its spring break trip to Texas, starting with a double-header against Austin College on Tuesday, March 10 at 3/5 p.m. On Wednesday, March 11, the Bears face No. 8 Texas Lutheran at 5/7 p.m. before having a day off from competition. The final games of the spring break trip are on Friday, March 13 against Trinity (TX) at 11 a.m./1p.m.
WashU begins UAA play on Friday, March 20 at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) with a single game at 3 p.m. ET. The following day, the Bears face CWRU in a 12/2 p.m. ET doubleheader.
Friday, March 27 marks the Bears' first UAA home series against Chicago at 3 p.m., which will be the Pride game. The next day, WashU and Maroons play a double-header at 12/2 p.m., which will be The Hidden Opponent (THO) Game.
The Bears are home again for another UAA series the following weekend, starting with a 3 p.m. game against NYU on Friday April 3. On Saturday, April 4, the teams play a 12/2 p.m. doubleheader and the day will feature an egg hunt for the children in attendance.
WashU hits the road Friday, April 17-Saturday, April 18 for a series at Brandeis, starting with a 3 p.m. ET game on Friday. The next day, the teams square off for a 12/2 p.m. doubleheader.
Friday, April 24-Saturday April 25 marks the final home UAA series, starting with a 3 p.m. game against Carnegie Mellon on Friday, which will be Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day. The next day, senior day, will be a 12/2 p.m. doubleheader.
The Bears have one final regular-season home doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 at 12/2 p.m. against (RV) Central, which will also be Alumni Weekend.
WashU heads to Atlanta for the final regular-season series against No. 15 Emory on Friday, May 8-Saturday, May 9. The teams will face off in a single game at 3 p.m. ET on Friday before finishing out with a 12/2 p.m. ET doubleheader on Saturday.
Personnel
The Bears have a group of three seniors –
Sydney Schneider,
Alexa Hanish and
Jamie Cendana – as well as one graduate student in
Dawson Dabboussi. Last year, Schneider played and started in 34 games, finishing with a .314 batting average with 32 hits and 16 RBI. Hanish finished with a .271 batting average after playing in 31 games with 26 starts, tallying 16 hits and six RBI with 10 runs scored. Cendana played in 25 games with 18 starts, finishing with a .353 batting average while Dabboussi played in 18 games with 11 starts, finishing with a .324 average.
Returning for the junior class are First Team All-UAA pitcher
Maria Brooks, who finished with a 1.78 earned-run average (ERA), posting a 10-4 record, making 18 appearances with 13 starts. She pitched 10 complete games, allowing 70 hits and striking out a team-best 74 batters. Also among the junior class are
Kennedy Grippo,
Elena Locascio,
Julia Nicholus,
Kristina Donaldson and
Hattie Bond.
Grippo played in 40 games with 39 starts, finishing with a .322 batting average, posting 39 hits including seven doubles, with 15 RBI and 23 runs scored. Locascio played in 18 games with six starts, finishing with a.242 batting average while Nicholus played in 25 games with nine starts, finishing with a .439 batting average. Donaldson played in 22 games with 13 starts, posting a .366 batting average. Finally, Bond made seven appearances with seven starts in the circle, finished with a 3-1 record and 13 strikeouts.
The sophomore class returns four players –
Emma Dow,
Harper Nix,
Kennedy Rushing and
Christina Smith. Dow played in 22 games with two starts, scoring 10 runs. Nix played in 32 games with 20 starts, finishing with a .354 batting average, tallying 23 hits and recording 17 RBI. Rushing made nine appearances with two starts, driving in one run while Smith played in 23 games, scoring 12 runs.
Joining the squad this year is talented group of 10 first-years:

Botkin, May, Lauber and Sullo will add depth to the outfield. Dolin comes in as a short stop while Szafoni and Peterson are both pitchers and utility. Kinney and Pocrass are also utility players and Fung is a pitcher and plays first base.
