ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The RV Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team defeated Rochester 89-78 on Sunday afternoon to finish 2-0 on the weekend. Overall, the Bears are now 13-5 with a 3-4 mark in UAA play.

Yogi Oliff posted a triple-double of 19 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists, setting a new career-high for assists. Sophomore
Connor May scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds while senior
Calvin Kapral had 14 points and sophomore
Anthony Przybilla scored 12 points.
After nearly two minutes of scoreless play to open the game, Rochester's Justin Odibo hit a 3-pointer. Przybilla answered with a steal and a dunk and Oliff grabbed a defensive rebound and laid one in to put the Bears ahead 4-3 at 17:18. A 3-pointer from junior
Ryan Cohen extended WashU's advantage to 7-4 with 15:49 on the clock.
The Yellowjackets kept things close, hitting a pair of free throws for a 7-5 game and eventually went on to tie things up at 11-11 with 11:46 remaining in the first. Rochester's Jordan Owusu followed with a 3-pointer and Camden Fleming had a steal and a layup for a 16-11 Yellowjackets' lead at 11:01.
Down five midway through the first half, May hit a pull up jumper followed by a layup to tie the game 20-20 at 9:01. Rochester answered with a pair of layups from Tomiwa Adetosoye, taking back a four-point, 24-20 advantage.
Przybilla hit a jumper and Oliff netted a pair of free throws to knot the score again, 24-24, with 7:06 on the clock. Cohen hit a pair of free throws and then had a steal followed by a layup to give the Bears a 28-24 lead with just over five minutes left to play in the first.
With 3:30 remaining, Rochester's Corvin Oprea hit a 3-pointer to make it a one-point, 30-29 game but junior
George Gale answered with a 3-pointer on a pass from Oliff for a 33-29 edge at 2:12. A pair of free throws from May extended the lead to six points, 35-29.
Back-to-back Rochester 3-pointers tied the game at 35-35 with just over one minute remaining and a pair of free throws from John Mayhew put the Yellowjackets ahead by two with 42 seconds left.
Przybilla put in a layup on an Oliff pass to tie the game at 37 but Rochester closed out the half with a layup from Owusu for a 39-37 Yellowjackets' advantage heading into halftime.
May opened the second half with a jumper to tie things at 39-39 and the Bears took a four-point, 43-39 lead following an offensive putback and layup from Kapral.
The Yellowjackets took the lead right back with a layup and a 3-pointer, but a layup from Przybilla changed the lead again to 45-44 for the Bears with 16:12 on the clock.
Rochester hit a 3-pointer to grab the lead back but the Bears followed with an offensive putback from Oliff and fastbreak dunk from junior
Jake Davis. The Yellowjackets tied things up again at 49-49 but the Bears went on 7-0 run, all scored by May, to lead 56-49 midway through the second half.
A layup from May at 8:55 extended WashU's lead to nine points, 60-51, which marked the largest lead of the game at that point.
As the clock ticked down, Rochester would come with five points, but no closer. The Bears took their first double-digit lead at 4:49 on a pair of free throws from Kapral to make it 68-58. From that point, WashU scored 15 more points on free throws en route to the 89-78 win.
The Bears shot 27-for-59 (45.8%) on the day and went 31-for-34 (91.2%) from the free throw line. WashU out-rebounded Rochester 47-23 and had 12 second-chance points.
WashU hits the road next weekend to face Emory and Rochester again, starting with a game against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. ET on Friday evening, before traveling up to Rochester on Sunday for a 2 p.m. ET matchup.
