No. 20 WashU Men's Basketball Edged By No. 7 Emory in OT

ATLANTA, Ga. – The No. 20 Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team fell in overtime to No. 7 Emory, 81-72, on Friday evening. The Bears are now 13-6 overall with a 3-5 mark in UAA play.
 
Sophomore Connor May posted a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds as well as three blocks and three steals. Sophomore Anthony Przybilla netted 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds and senior Calvin Kapral scored 10 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine. For the second game in a row, senior Yogi Oliff had double-digit rebounds with 16.
 
Emory opened the game with momentum, going up 18-4 in the first 7:18.
 
The Eagles maintained a double-digit lead until 7:27 when a layup from May made it an eight-point, 25-17 game. Emory hit a jumper to push it back to 10 points but first-year Josh Kim followed with a 3-pointer. Kapral netted a jumper to cut it to a five-point, 27-22 ballgame.
 
Emory's Ethan Fauss hit a 3-pointer but the Bears responded with back-to-back buckets from May and Kapral for a four-point game with just over four minutes left to play in the first half.
 
The Bears were down just four points with 43 seconds left to play in the first half. Emory's Jair Knight ended the half with an and-one play, sending WashU into the break trailing 37-30.
 
Kapral scored the first points of the second half with a 3-pointer and followed with a layup for a two-point, 37-35 game. After several exchanged points, a 3-pointer from junior Ryan Cohen at 16:00 made it a one-point, 41-40 game.
 
The Eagles went back up by seven points and maintained a several-point lead as the clock wound down.
 
With the Bears down four points at 10:59, Przybilla put in a layup on an assist from junior George Gale and a layup from May tied things up at 52 apiece with 8:22 on the clock.
 
The game was tied again at 55, 57 and 59 before the Bears took their first lead since 18:13 in the first half. Przybilla scored the tying layup and junior Jake Davis netted a pair of free throws to give WashU the slight edge. Przybilla put in another layup and May drained a 3-pointer for a 66-59 lead with 3:17 left in regulation.
 
The Eagles cut it down to one point with 1:42 left and a pair of free throws from May extended the lead back to three points.
 
A dunk from Harris Jackson and a free throw from Ben Pearce tied the game at 68-68, forcing overtime. The Eagles narrowly missed the game-winner as Pearce missed the second of his two free throws.
 
Emory hit a 3-pointer to start the five-minute overtime but the teams remained close as the time ticked off. It wasn't until the final 1:13 when the Eagles created some space, hitting a 3-pointer to start and netting four free throws to close things out.
 
The Bears shot 26-for-79 (32.9%) and edged Emory 61-52 on the boards.
 
WashU heads to Rochester for a 2 p.m. ET game on Sunday afternoon.
