CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team wrapped up action at the ITA Fall Regional on Sunday, hosted by Wabash.
Singles
In the A Flight, sophomore Jeremy Sieben advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Chika Nwaozuzu of Denison before taking down Ajer Sher of Chicago, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9), to reach the semifinals. In the final four of the bracket, he dropped his match to Rowan Matorin of Case Western Reserve, 6-3, 6-1, to conclude his run.
First-year Jerry Han fell in his round of 16 matchup with Nicholas Meyers of Denison, 6-4, 7-5.
In the B Flight of singles, sophomore Ethan Wu won his round of 32 matchup, 6-0, 6-3, over Ryan Ricciardi of Otterbein before falling to the top seed in the bracket, Leon Chen of CWRU, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 1-0 (5).
Junior Drew Koval won his first match, 6-3, 6-1, over Martin Suarez of Anderson before reaching the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Caleb Bartels of Calvin. In the final four, he dropped a heartbreaker in a match tiebreak to Peter Berns of Denison, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12).
Senior Nathan Tam picked up a win in his round of 32 matchup with Rafael Lessa of North Central, 6-3, 6-3, before falling to Denison's Berns, 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (0).
Doubles
In the Round of 16, Tam and Koval earned an 8-4 win over Tyler Wood and Dylan Catanese of Ohio Northern before falling in the quarterfinals, 8-7(6), to Rohit Jain and Jon Totrica of Case Western Reserve.
Wu and Sieben fell in their Round of 16 match, 8-6, to Neil Zzouaoui and Scott Anderson of DePauw.
WashU finishes the fall portion of their schedule next weekend when they participate in the WTN Open on Friday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.
