ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team opened the fall portion of their schedule over the weekend playing in a pair of tournaments. The team split its roster with athletes traveling to River Forest, Ill. for the River Forest Clay Court Invite hosted by Northern Illinois while others stayed at home and participated in the WashU Tournament.
River Forest Invite
The flighted tournament featured three flights of doubles and six of singles. Two rounds of each took place on Friday with action concluding due to play being rained on out on Saturday.
In singles, first-year
Jerry Han picked up a win over Luke Coppage of Marquette in the first round of number three singles before falling in his second match. In the No. 5 bracket, first-year
Jonah Becker took a 6-3, 6-4 win from Marcus Vazquez of Marquette before dropping his second round to Western Michigan.
First-year
Yuanye Ma made quick work in the No. 6 bracket in the first round with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Max Goldemberg of Drake before falling to another Drake player in the semifinals.
In doubles, Becker and Ma received a bye in the No. 3 bracket before shutting out a team from Butler, 6-0 in the semifinals.

Nathan Tam.
WashU Tournament
The tournament at home featured one round of doubles and one round of singles.

Drew Koval and sophomore
Ethan Wu dropped their doubles matchup against Missouri Baptist in a tie breaker 8-7 (7-4). Senior
Daniel Radke and sophomore
Spencer Yamamoto nearly took their match to a tiebreak but fell 8-6 to their opponents from MBU.
In singles, Wu picked up a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) win over Ruslan Anurev of MBU. Sophomore
Hans Deng also secured his first win of the season with a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) win over MBU.
Also playing was junior
Coleman Merce.
WashU is back in action on Oct. 2-4 at the ITA Fall Regional in Indianapolis, Ind.
