ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team wrapped up the second of three days of the WTN Open on Saturday. The event is being held at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park and features collegiate and non-collegiate players.
Singles – Flight 1
Sophomore
Lily Brecknock beat Toby Hawkes 6-2, 6-1. First-year
Cassan Li defeated SLU's Nawal Cheema 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinal.
Brecknock and Li went on to face each other in the final with Li winning 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
Singles – Flight 2
Sophomore
Maddie Morgan fell to Southeast Missouri State's Maria Drag 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 in the semifinal. First-year
Mia Yin lost to Aryn Walker 2-6, 7-5, 11-9.
Graduate student
Leila Epstein beat Missouri Baptist's Yvonne Shannon 7-5, 6-2 in the consolation semifinal and will play Missouri Baptist's Natalie Haug in the final tomorrow morning.
Singles – Flight 3
First-year Emily Lew defeated Missouri Baptist's Jocelynn Carmody 6-1, 6-1. She will take on Yifei Han in tomorrow morning's final.
In the consolation bracket, junior
Sam Slowik won in a walkover in the semifinal. She moved on to beat Rethabile Moshaoa 6-4, 6-4 in the consolation final.
Doubles
After receiving a bye in the first round, senior
Eleanor Archer and junior
Caitlin Bui defeated Southeast Missouri State's Mia Mayerova and Maja Bajorek 8-3.
Senior
Emily Chiasson and Lew defeated Patricia Mercade Gonzalez and Hawkes 8-1. They moved on to beat Cheema and Han 8-2 in the quarterfinals.
Archer and Bui will face Chiasson and Lew in the doubles semifinal tomorrow morning.
Li and Brecknock received a bye in the first round and moved on to defeat Melissa Jangarasheva and Munisa Asurbekova 8-5.
Slowik and Epstein also had a bye in the first round and went on to beat Haug and Shannon 8-7 (7-3).
Li and Brecknock will take on teammates Slowik and Epstein tomorrow in the doubles semifinal.
Yin and Morgan fell to Haug and Shannon 8-6.
The Bears conclude competition tomorrow morning with singles beginning at 8:45 a.m. and doubles at 11:15 a.m. and 1 p.m.
