Bear Beats: Episode 18, For Competition From Dec. 15 - Jan. 4

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The 18th episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's basketball as well as men's and women's swimming.

No. 4 Men's Basketball No. 18 Women's Basketball  
On the horizon:
 
No. 4 Men's Basketball
  • WashU opens up UAA action on the road this weekend when it travels to the Windy City on Saturday, Jan. 10 to take on Chicago.
  • The Bears will look to avenge its two losses to the Maroons a year ago.
  • Overall, WashU controls the series record 23-13 since 2007.
  • Tip-off with Chicago is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Ratner Athletics Center.

No. 6 Men's and No. 12 Women's Swimming and Diving
  • The Bears kick off 2026 this Saturday, Jan. 10 when they travel to Div. II McKendree for a pair of duals.
  • The Bearcats are ranked No. 7 on the men's side while No. 25 on the women's side in the latest Div. II national rankings.
  • The men have dropped the past three duals to McKendree while the women have gone 2-1 over the same stretch.
  • The duals will take place at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O'Fallon, Ill.
  • The meet begins at 1:30 p.m.

No. 18 Women's Basketball
  • The Bears kick off both 2026 and UAA play this weekend when they travel to Chicago on Saturday, Jan. 10.
  • WashU faces off against a Maroons team that split last season's matchups, each winning on their home court.
  • The Bears hold the 23-14 record against Chicago since 2007.
  • Game time with the Maroons is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Ratner Athletic Center
