Bear Beats: Episode 20, For Competition Through Jan. 18

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The 20th episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, and men's and women's indoor track and field.

On the horizon:
 
No. 13 Women's Basketball
  • WashU returns home for the first time since Dec. 19 this weekend as they continue UAA conference play with visits from No. 1 New York University on Friday, Jan. 23 and Brandeis on Sunday, Jan. 25.
  • Both games will be played inside the Field House.
  • Game time with the top-ranked Violets is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
  • NYU claimed the 2024-25 National Championships a year ago after going 31-0, including a pair of wins over the Bears.

  • For the contest against the Judges, tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
  • Last season, Brandeis and WashU split their two matchups with each team winning on their home court as the Bears won 74-50 in St. Louis.

No. 13 Men's Basketball
  • WashU returns home for the first time since Dec. 18 this weekend as they continue UAA conference play with visits from New York University on Friday, Jan. 23 and Brandeis on Sunday, Jan. 25.
  • Both games will be played inside the Field House.
  • Game time with the Violets is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
  • Last season the Violets defeated the Bears in the Final Four, claiming all three matchups during the season.

  • Last season, Brandeis and WashU split their two matchups with each team winning on their home court as the Bears won 83-58 in St. Louis.

Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field
  • The Bears will split and travel to a two different meets over the weekend.
  • Some WashU athletes will travel to Rose-Hulman for the Friday Night Spikes #2 on Jan. 23 while others will go west to the Bob Teel Invite on Saturday, Jan. 24 hosted by Mizzou.
