No. 16/18 Baseball Honored By Both D3baseball.com And ABCA/Rawlings In All-Region Selections

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Four members of the No. 16/18 Washington University in St. Louis baseball team, as well as head coach Pat Bloom, have earned postseason honors with both D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings announcing their All-Region teams.

For D3baseball.com, graduate student Chase Brickley earned First Team honors, while senior Shane Pellegrino was named to the Second Team. Sophomore Ryan Soong was a Third Team selection. Head Coach Pat Bloom was named the Region 8 Coach of the Year.

For the ABCA/Rawlings selections, Brickley was named First Team, Soong and junior Parker Guthrie were picked for the Second Team, while Pellegrino earned a Third Team nod.

Brickley arrived in St. Louis after spending his undergraduate years at Colorado State. He finished the season with an 8-2 record in 14 appearances and 12 starts. In his 73.1 innings of work, he notched a 1.72 ERA along with 64 strikeouts and just 14 walks. He held opponents to a .218 batting average. He was named the UAA Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 23 and was named First Team All-UAA earlier this spring.

Pellegrino started all 43 games this season and has played and started all 164 games in his career. This season he was second in the UAA in batting average at .394 while tallying 69 hits with 54 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He slugged .606 for the season. Pellegrino finishes his career ranked fifth in games played, fourth in hits, tied for sixth in doubles, eighth in stolen bases, fifth in runs scored, and tied for first in RBIs. He was named the UAA Hitter of the Week on Mar. 9 and First Team All-UAA earlier this spring.

Soong earned his nod after batting .350 in 38 games. He finished the season with 50 hits, 44 runs scored, and 31 RBIs. Of his 50 hits, he had seven doubles, five home runs, and three triples. He finished with a .576 slugging percentage and also walked 30 times. He was named the UAA Hitter of the Week on Apr. 6 and First Team All-UAA earlier this spring.

Guthrie made 17 appearances with two starts over the season. He finished the year with a 2.59 ERA while going 5-2 overall with five saves. He tallied 54 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work and held opponents to a .196 batting average.
