ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the first time in program history, the Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team will see an all WashU doubles final at the ITA Central Regional Championships.
Doubles
After Saturday weather bumped the doubles semifinals to late afternoon on Sunday, junior
Eleanor Archer and sophomore
Caitlin Bui defeated teammates first-year
Lily Brecknock and sophomore
Sam Slowik 8-3.
Sophomore
Ally Lin and senior
Eliana Hanna followed with a win over Chicago's Lily Zawaneh and Lauren Khou, 8-4.
Archer and Bui will face Lin and Hanna at a time to be determined. With the win, both pairs have qualified for the ITA Cup in October.
Singles
Hanna opened the day with a win over Chicago's Isabelle Chong 6-1, 6-2. She advanced to Monday's semifinal with a win over Kenyon's Eleni Lazaridou 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 in the quarterfinal. She moves on to face Kenyon's Kiara Komlodi in the semifinal at 9 a.m. on Monday morning.
Brecknock defeated Chicago's Clara Zou 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in the Round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinals to Chicago's Sarena Biria 5-7, 1-6.
Lin beat Zawaneh 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (10-8) in the Round of 16 before losing to Komlodi 2-6, 6-7 (5-7) in the quarterfinal.
Bui lost to Biria in the Round of 16 3-6, 6-3, 4-6.
Archer lost to Chicago's Anika Pual 6-7 (5-7), 3-6 in the Round of 16.
Junior
Amber Edmonds fell to Lazaridou 0-6, 1-6 in the quarterfinal.
Tomorrow's single semifinal will begin at 9 a.m. at Tao Tennis Center with a weather backup at
Vetta Sports Sunset. The singles final will follow.
