Four Bears Named All-Association in Men's Tennis

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – As the No. 25 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team prepares for the 2025 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, four members of the Bears' squad have been selected to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) teams, as announced by the league on Wednesday, May 7.

Seniors Stefan Hester (first team doubles, second team singles) and Pato Garcia Muriel (first team doubles) as well as juniors Colin Scruggs (first team singles, second team doubles) and Eric Kuo (second team singles and doubles) each received a nod.
Hester and Garcia Muriel teamed up and played 19 of the team's 20 dual matches at the top doubles spot and finished with a 14-5 record. They finished the regular season with several ranked wins, including a win over the No. 2 team at the time from Denison, 6-1.

Four of their five losses came to teams ranked in the top 10.

Hester also earned his spot in singles after competing in 17 of the Bears' 20 matches at number three. He finished the regular season with an 11-6 singles record. His past two wins have helped clinch the victory for WashU during the 2025 UAA Tournament with wins over Brandeis and Carnegie Mellon.

Scruggs and Kuo became a doubles team late in the season but had an immediate impact on the Bears. The duo wrapped up the regular season and UAA tournament on a seven-match winning streak. As a team, they went 2-0 in the UAA team tournament with their wins over Emory and Brandeis.

Scruggs played the majority of the season at the top singles spot for WashU and finished with an 11-6 record in dual matches. After reaching the quarterfinals of the Central Regional in the fall, he began the spring with the No. 33 individual ranking in Div. III. He has since moved up and is currently No. 15 in the country.

Kuo stepped up into the number two singles spot this year and was a staple for the Bears in their duals. Of the 15 matches that he started, he finished with a 12-1 record and had at one point a 10-match winning streak at the spot. He also picked up two wins at the top singles spot, including a win over the number one from Creighton.
