REGIONAL BOUND: RV Baseball Earns At-Large Bid Into NCAA Tournament And Travels to Adrian For Regional Play

ADRIAN, Mich. – The RV Washington University in St. Louis baseball team was selected for the 2025 NCAA Tournament on Monday and will hit the road for its four-team regional. The Bears will travel to Adrian College in Adrian, Mich. as they look to make it back to the College World Series for the first time since 2019.

WashU will traverse the 474 miles to Adrian and face off against Ohio Northern in its first game of the regional. The host Bulldogs will take on Wisconsin-Whitewater in the other game on Friday.

The winner of the Adrian Regional will face off against the winner from the Gustavus-Adolphus Regional (host Gusties, Beloit, Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and Chicago) in a Super Regional, May 23-24. The winners of the Super Regionals will meet for the Div. III College World Series at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio, May 30-June 5.

About the Bears – Schedule | Roster | Stats

WashU, the regional number two seed, enters the postseason receiving votes in the latest ABCA Coaches Poll. The Bears have a 25-15 overall record and finished 10-10 in the UAA this season.

Last Thursday, the UAA released its postseason awards. Graduate student Noah Reichman; seniors Brandon Buday and Hank Weiss; along with junior Isaac Zhang, each earned a spot on the All-UAA teams.

Buday, a First Team selection in the outfield, finished the regular season with his highest batting average in his career (.399). On April 18, he went a perfect 5-for-5 while hitting for the cycle. Reichman, named to the First Team in the infield, played and started all but one game for the Bears this season and finished with a .403 batting average. He also managed to tally 52 hits, including 14 doubles and eight home runs. Zhang, one of two pitchers named First Team All-UAA, finished the regular season with 11 appearances on the mound, including six starts. He finished the regular season with a 3-1 record along with one save and a 1.82 ERA in 39.2 innings pitched. Weiss, one of two true pitchers who earned a spot on the Second Team All-UAA, also finished the regular season with 11 appearances. He went 3-2 on the mound in 49 innings pitched while holding opposing batters to a .205 average. He concluded his games thus far with a 1.84 ERA.

The Polar Bears finished the season ranked No. 34 nationally in the NCAA's NPI rankings system, which was good enough to grab one of the 23 at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament and the number three seed in the region. ONU reached the finals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, going 2-2 over the weekend, after finishing second in the regular season with a 13-3 record.

Elliott Veenstra leads the Polar Bears with a .360 average while collecting three home runs and eight doubles. Devon Morris leads the team in power with a .594 slugging percentage with eight home runs, five doubles and five triples.

On the mound, Joe Tootle, Jackson Saylor, and Blake Altaffer each have six wins on the season with Altaffer leading the team with two saves. Tootle's 69 strikeouts lead ONU. Ohio Northern will be making its 10th NCAA III Tournament appearance and first since 1995.

About Wisconsin-Whitewater – Schedule | Roster | Stats

The No. 2 Warhawks enter the regional as the top seed among the four participating teams. They are third in the latest NPI rankings. They finished the regular season with a 35-4 record before dropping the first game of the 2025 WIAC Baseball Tournament. They went on to win their next four games, including an 11-inning marathon in the first championship game against UW-Oshkosh.

Offensively, the Warhawks are led by Matt Scolan who enters the weekend with a .426 batting average with 75 hits, including 17 home runs, 16 doubles, and four triples. He has 55 RBIs and has scored 69 runs. UWW also boasts Aaron Holland and Adam Cootway, who currently have a .407 and .406 average, respectively. As a team, they have belted 93 home runs and have a team batting average of .364.

Cade Hansen leads from the mound with a 9-1 record with two complete games, including one shutout. His 3.03 ERA is matched up against his 66 strikeouts and a .230 opponents' batting average.

UW-Whitewater will take on host Adrian on Friday at 2:30 pm ET.

About Adrian – Schedule | Roster | Stats

Adrian enters the regional as the No. 4 seed with a 28-16 overall record after winning the MIAA tournament's if-necessary game 8-7 in 12 innings over Kalamazoo on Friday.

Jake Burns helps lead the Bulldogs with a .385 batting average this season. He has totaled 45 hits, including four home runs, 14 doubles, and a triple. He is slugging .624 while adding 31 RBIs and 31 runs scored. Ryan Davis might be third on the team in batting average (.329) but has 48 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He also has launched six home runs, 14 doubles and one triple.

Adrian is led by Jaxon Clark on the mound with a 6-3 record in 72.0 innings pitched. He has struck out 43 batters while holding opponents to a .262 average against him. The Bulldogs also send out Ryan Davis to close their games. The reliever currently has a 0.75 ERA in 36 innings pitched. He has a 2-1 record while leading the team in saves with five. He has also struck out 42 batters while walking just seven.

Adrian faces off against UWW on Friday, May 16 at 2:30 p.m.  ET.
