MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team finished seventh at the ITA Indoor National Championships, defeating No. 12 Sewanee 4-0 in the seventh-place match on Sunday morning.
Doubles
The Bears claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles. No. 2 doubles remained unfinished once WashU clinched the doubles point.
The No. 1-ranked duo of sophomore
Eleanor Archer and first-year
Caitlin Bui defeated Brooke Despriet and Ansley Carpenter 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Junior
Amber Edmonds and first-year
Sam Slowik defeated Harper High and Sarah Livingston 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. Junior
Eliana Hanna and first-year
Ally Lin were up 4-3 on Emma Caldwell and Ivy Wilson when the Bears clinched the doubles point.
Singles
Hanna beat Livingston 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Bui followed with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Despriet at No. 2 singles.
Archer clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Carpenter.
Junior
Nina Moravek lost the first set 3-6 and was behind 4-5 at No. 4 singles. Lin fell to Wilson 3-6 in the first set and was trailing 4-5 in the second at No. 5 singles. Edmonds lost the first set 7-6 (7-4) and was up 1-0 in the second at No. 6 singles.
The Bears hit the road next weekend to start their spring break trip to Texas. WashU faces MIT and Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday, March 9, Skidmore on Tuesday, March 11 and Bowdoin on Thursday, March 13.
