No. 9 Women's Tennis Splits on First Day of Spring Break Trip

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team split its matches on the first day of spring break, falling to No. 12 MIT before defeating No. 23 Gustavus Adolphus.

Match 1: MIT 5, WashU 2
MIT won the doubles point, winning two of the three matches.

Sophomore Eleanor Archer and first-year Caitlin Bui fell to Alaina Kolli and Artemis Pados, 5-7, at No. 1 doubles.

Juniors Amber Edmonds and Eliana Hanna lost to Chloe Zeng and Jay Lu, 1-6, at No. 2 doubles.

First-years Chloe Brissett and Sam Slowik beat Saina Deshpande and Anastasia Samets, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3 doubles.

Archer picked up one of the Bears' points at No. 1 singles, defeating Zeng, 6-4, 6-3. Hanna earned the other point at No. 3 singles with a win over Kolli, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.

Bui fell to Lu, 4-6, 2-6, at No. 2 singles, and first-year Ally Lin lost to Deshpande, 6-7 (4-7), 5-7, at No. 4 singles.

Junior Nina Moravek fell to Samets, 0-6, 1-6, at No. 5 singles, and Edmonds lost to Megan Sun, 4-6, 1-6, at No. 6 singles.

Match 2: WashU 7, Gustavus Adolphus 0
Against the Gusties, Archer and Bui defeated Karina Elvestrom and Kaya De Bruijn, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles.

Hanna and Edmonds beat Molly Austin and Laine Davis, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles.

Slowik and Brissett topped Brooke Haddorff and Pavla Yakimova, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles.

Archer beat Elvestrom, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), at No. 1 singles, and Bui defeated De Bruijn, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.

Hanna topped Austin, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, and Lin beat Ella De Young, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.

Sophomore Emily Chiasson defeated Haddorff, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, and Slowik beat Maya Brakhage, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.

After a day off from competition tomorrow, WashU takes on No. 33 Skidmore on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
