Several Event Wins Highlight No. 3 Women's Indoor Track & Field at Midwest Elite Invite

WHITEWATER, Wis. – It might have been cold outside, but the No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis women's track and field team was hot inside at the 2025 Midwest Elite Invite, coming away with the team win, finishing with 175.5 points.

WashU outdistanced second place Wis.-La Crosse by 32.5 points while the host Warhawks of Wis.-Whitewater finished third with 80.5 points. Loras (74.5) and Carthage (44) rounded out the top five teams.

Top Finishes
  • 60m
    • Junior Jasmine Wright took the top spot with a time of 7.59
    • Sophomore Maya Davis also reached the finals and finished in sixth place with a time of 7.78
  • 60m Hurdles
    • Junior Lauren Gay finished second with a time of 9.11
  • 200m
    • Gay finished second in her second event with a time of 25.50
    • Senior Nicole Stewart also finished in the top five (fourth) with a time of 25.71
    • Wright was ninth in the event with a time of 26.12.
  • 400m
    • It was a 1-2 finish for junior Kylie Spytek and sophomore Cate Christopher.
    • Spytek finished I a time of 57.39 while Christopher finished in 58.87.
    • First-year Quinn Bird finished fifth with a time of 59.41
  • 800m
    • From nearly top to bottom, it nearly appeared to be a solid line of finishers for the Bears as WashU took home 11 of the top 13 spots in the event.
    • Senior Izzy Gorton was first in 2:14.50 while sophomore Caroline Echols was runner-up in 2:15.14.
    • First-year Kalena Riemer was fourth in a time of 2:16.12.
    • Senior Virginia Pridgen began a streak of eight-straight finishers for the Bears with her sixth place finish in a time of 2:19.29.
  • 1 Mile
    • It was another 1-2 punch for the Bears with junior Katie Rector winning with a time of 5:02.79
    • Pridgen was the next to cross the finish line with a time of 5:04.54.
  • 5000m
    • Senior Abby Patterson was the top WashU finisher in 10th place with a time of 17.51.68
  • High Jump
  • Long Jump
    • Graduate Ebun Opata finished fourth in the field with a distance of 5.53m
  • Pole Vault
    • Not only did senior Yasmin Ruff win the pole vault for the fifth straight meet, she also broke her own school record she set earlier this season with a new top Div. III mark of 4.10m, which ranks as the ninth best all-time in Div. III.
  • Shot Put
    • Junior Jenae Bothe finished second with a throw of 13.66m
  • Triple Jump
    • Opata claimed an event win with a series of leaps totaling 12.47m
  • 4x400m
    • The team of Spytek, Christopher, Stewart, and Gorton was second wit a time of 3:54.93
WashU will next compete at the Illinois College Hilltop Classic on Friday, Feb. 21. The first event is scheduled for 5 p.m.
