WashU Men's Track & Field Kicks Off Season At Scott Fangman Invite

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Washington University in St. Louis men's track and field team kicked off the indoor season on Saturday when they traveled to the Scott Fangman Invitational being hosted by UIndy.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

Top Finishers
  • Mile
    • Senior James Corbett finished in second place with a time of 4:25.27
    • First-year Ulysses Klebeck also finished in the top 10 with a time of 4:30.77 to cross the line in sixth place.
  • 400m
    • Three Bears finished in the top 10 with senior Dayton Lasack finishing fourth with a time of 50.86.
    • Sophomore Benjamin Kruger was sixth with a time of 51.58 and first-year William Kamp was eighth in a time of 52.89
  • 800m
    • The top seven times all belonged to WashU runners.
    • Junior William Frohling won the event with a time of 1:54.20, more than five seconds faster than second place first-year Cameron Bettinger in a time of 1:59.28.
    • Fellow first-year Param Gupta was next in third wit a time of 2:00.12.
  • 4x400m
    • The Bears team of Frohling, junior Alex Gardner, Kruger, and Lasack finished first in the event with a time of 3:24.36.
    • The second entered WashU team of senior Carson Page, senior Brandon Brazil, Corbett, and senior Alek Zavadoski finished in third place with a time of 3:27.75.
  • Pole Vault
    • In one of the deepest events for the Bears, WashU with five of the top six marks.
    • Senior George Bourdier claimed the win with a successful clear of 4.95m while classmate Tommaso Maiocco was runner-up with a clear of 4.80m.
    • With a clear of 4.65m, senior Hayden Kunkel and sophomore Zachary Duckworth finished in third and fourth places, respectively.
    • In his first collegiate event, first-year Will Coyne came in sixth place with a clear of 4.50m.
  • Triple Jump
    • Nathan Scherer was the top Bear in the event, coming in fifth place with a distance of 13.27m
 WashU will have a long break for exams and in between semesters before returning to competition on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Bears will compete at the annual John Craft Invite hosted by Eastern Illinois University at Lantz Fieldhouse.
