Ruff Breaks School Pole Vault Record as No.1 Women's Indoor Track & Field Finish as Top Team at Friday Night Spikes #3

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – It was a one day shorter week for the #1 Washington University in  St. Louis women's track and field team as the Bears took part in the Friday Night Spikes #3 hosted by Rose-Hulman on Friday evening.

The Bears finished first in the field of seven teams with a dominating 73.5 points. Second place DePauw finished with 24 points with third place Indiana State totaling 21 points. Millikin (20.5) and Rose-Hulman (7) rounded out the top five.

WashU will return to the road next Saturday when they pay a visit to Illinois Wesleyan for the Keck Select Invite on Saturday, February 8.

  • 60m
    • Junior Jasmine Wright took home top honors in the event with a time of 7.73.
  • 200m
    • WashU took home six of the top seven spots in the event.
    • Senior Lauren Gay finished first with a time of 25.64.
    • Wright took home second wit a time  of 25.83, first-year Hailey Weir took home third in a PR of 25.84.
    • Senior Nicole Stewardt was the fourth Bear to finish with a time of 25.94.
    • Sophomore Julia Coric (6th – 26.26) and junior Kylie Spytek (7th – 26.35) also were top finishers.
  • 400m 
    • Sophomore Catherine Christopher was the top WashU runner in the event with a second place finish in a time of 58.07.
    • First-year Quinn Bird (59.34) and sophomore Gayle Henderson (59.45) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
  • 800m
    • The Bears finished first through fifth to secure several team points.
    • Junior Izzy Gorton set a new PR to win the event with a time of 2:14.89.
    • Sophomore Caroline Echols (2:19.34), junior Elizabeth Wagner (2:20.17), junior Cate Stevens (2:20.66), and senior Ruby Kaplan (2:21.05) finished second through fifth, respectively.
  • Mile
    • Junior Macy Iyer was a top-five finisher with a time of 5:21.55.
  • 3000m
    • Sophomore Avery Nason was the top WashU runner with a time of 10:42.80 to finish third.
  •  5000m             
    • It was a 1, 2, 3 finished for WashU as first-year Maddy Lee cross the line first in a time of 18:33.66.
    • Classmate Sally Carrington was the next Bear to finish just five seconds later with a time of 18:38.56
    • Sophomore Vivienne Larson completed the top sweep for WashU with a time of 18:57.97 to finish third.
  • 60m Hurdles
    • Senior Lauren Gay won the second event of the evening for WashU with a time of 9.03.
  • 4x400 Relay
    • The Bears finished with the top three teams' times.
    • First place came from Spytek, Weir, Christopher, and sophomore Julia Coric in a time of 3:54.43
    • Second place was Henderson, Echols, Stewart, and Gorton with a time of 3:56.74
    • Third place was Bird, Wagner, first-year Alison Conner, and Kaplan with a time of 4:01.18.
  • Pole Vault
    • Senior Yasmin Ruff broke the WashU and facility record in the pole vault with a height of 4.08m. The personal record is the top mark in Div. III this season.
    • Senior Makenzie Stock and sophomore Meredyth Barr tied for runner-up with a height of 3.22m
    • First-year Madison Elhaik (3.22m) finished fifth, due to tiebreakers.
  • Shot Put
    • For the second time this season, junior Jenae Bothe won the shot put, this time with a throw of 13.95m, more than a meter more than second place from Indiana State
    • Senior Taylor Simpson rounded out the top five with a throw of 11.38m.
  • High Jump
    • The top three saw a pair of Bears on the podium in the event with sophomore Olivia Theisen taking the win with a height of 1.70m, setting both a PR and ranking as the second best height in Div. III this season.
    • Graduate Ebun Opata finished third with a height of 1.58m
  • Long Jump
    • Sophomore Sofia Rosenzweig took the title in the long jump with a distance and PR of 5.04m.
  • Triple Jump
  • Weight Throw
    • Simpson was the top Bear finisher with a throw of 13.36m
    • Junior Kally Mack set a PR to finish fifth with a throw of 12.76m
    • Bothe took home sixth with a throw of 12.47m
