CHARLESTON, Ill. – Getting back to action after the winter break, the Washington University in St. Louis women's track and field team took on some tough competition from both Div. I and II on Saturday at the John Craft Invite, hosted by Div. I Eastern Illinois.
Several Personal Records (PRs) were broken, and a few all-time bests were recorded in the one-day meet.
No team results/standings were recorded.
Here are some of the top results from Saturday:
- Weight Throw
- Junior Jenae Bothe finished third in the 18 person event with a throw of 14.52m
- Shot Put
- Bothe followed up her first event with a win in her second with a throw of 13.59m
- Pole Vault
- Defending Outdoor national champion senior Yasmin Ruff claimed the win in this event with a height of 3.65m
- It was then a three through five finish for the Bears with senior Makenzie Stock (3.35m), sophomore Meredyth Barr (3.20m), and first-year Madison Elhaik (3.05m) finishing in order, respectively.
- Long Jump
- Senior Ebun Opata finished sixth in the deep field with a leap of 4.84m
- Triple Jump
- High Jump
- Opata was able to secure another top finish on the day in with a height of 1.55 meters
- One Mile
- Three Bears finished in the top five with senior Virginia Pridgen taking second place with a time of 5:07.26
- First-year Mackenzie Raue was the next competitor to cross the finish line with a time of 5:12.43, finishing third.
- Senior Sophie Bekins was fifth in the event with a time of 5:17.69.
- 400m
- 600m
- 60m Hurdles
- Senior Lauren Gay claimed the win in this first with a time 8.92.
- 60m
- Junior Jasmine Wright took home first with a time of 7.71, narrowly edging out Gay, who took second, who finished with a time of 7.83.
- 800m
- 200m
- First-year Quinn Bird was the top WashU finisher with a time of 26.61 to take home second place.
- Wright claimed third place with a time of 26.72.
- 3000m
- Three of the top four finishers wore a WashU uniform with junior Jillian Heth taking first place with a time of 10:00.64
- Sheldon cross the line in third place with a time of 10:23.85 with senior Abby Patterson finishing fourth in a time of 10:26.49.
- 4x400m
- Much like its individual distance event, this was thoroughly controlled by the Bears.
- WashU sent six relay teams to the line, taking the top three spots
- Coric, sophomore Gayle Henderson, Bird, and Wagner took home first place with a time of 4:01.63.
- Weir, Christopher, Stewart, and Spytek crossed in second place with a time of 4:01.85.
- Sophomore Holland Kantar, Riemer, Fowler, and Kaplan were the third team to cross with time of 4:14.42.
WashU will be back on the track next Saturday, Jan. 25 when they travel west this time to take on the competition at the Bob Teel Invitational hosted by Div. I Missouri.
