AURORA, Ill. – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team earned a 2-2 tie in their first road game of the season with the Aurora Spartans on Friday evening. The Bears are now 2-0-1 on the season.
It was quiet for most of the first half except for a lone Spartan goal in the 34th minute as the teams headed into halftime with Auroa leading 1-0.
Nathan Szpak scored his first goal of the season, leveling the contest at 1-1 in the 66
th minute off a pass from
Zach Susee. Less than a minute later the Spartans retook the lead with a goal early in the 67
th minute.
Nearing the end of the game,
Ethan Wirtschafter would score in the 87
th minute off a double pass from Susee and
Jesus Tadeo to help the Bears earn the 2-2 draw and remain unbeaten this season.
The Bears outshot the home team 22-7, including 9-3 on goal. WashU also led in corner kicks 9-2.
Adam Mallalieu played all 90 minutes in goal, making one save.
WashU will remain on the road this weekend with a Sunday contest at North Park in Chicago. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
