Archer, Bui Reach ITA Regional Doubles Final, Advance to ITA Cup

Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team had a strong showing at the ITA Regional over the weekend, with the doubles team of first-year Caitlin Bui and sophomore Eleanor Archer reaching the doubles final.
 
Doubles
Bui and Archer, the No. 4 seed in doubles, received a bye in the first round before defeating Wooster's Janaki Jagannathan and Elyse Errington 8-0 in the Round of 32. The pair beat DePauw's Ellen Gardner and Kassie Green 8-0 in the Round of 16 and moved on to defeat Denison's Peyton Oda and Maia Nowicki 8-3 in the quarterfinal round.
 
Archer and Bui advanced to the semifinal round, beating Chicago's Erica Ekstrand and Isabelle Chong 8-2 for a trip to the final. The pair fell to Chicago's Sylwia and Oliwia Mikos 4-6, 6-4, 8-10 in the final. With their finalist performance, the duo earned a trip to the ITA Cup, held October 10-13 in Rome, Georgia at the Rome Tennis Center.
 
The No. 9 seed of junior Amber Edmonds and first-year Samantha Slowik received a bye in the first round and beat Denison's Caroline Lopez and Charlotte Johns 8-7 (10-8) in the Round of 32. The pair then fell to Chicago's Clara Zou and Sarena Biria 8-4 in the Round of 16.
 
The team of junior Eliana Hanna and first-year Ally Lin, the No. 5 seed, defeated Augustana's Hannah Colbert and Colleen Larry in the Round of 32 after receiving a bye in the first round. They went on to defeat Lake Forest's Sophia Strupovets and Lilliam Dockal 8-4 in the Round of 16 before falling to Ekstrand and Chong 1-8 in the quarterfinal.
 
Singles
Lin received a bye in the first round before defeating DePauw's Allie Stamm 6-2, 6-0 in the Round of 64. She advanced to the Round of 32 where she defeated Hope's Amanda Lopykinski 6-1, 6-1 before concluding her run in the quarterfinals with a loss to Ekstrand, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 4-10.
 
Archer received a bye in the first round and defeated John Carroll's Sarah Sgambati 6-1, 6-2 in the Round of 64. Archer moved on to beat Case Western Reserve University's Anna Kan 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 in the Round of 32 and concluded her run in the Round of 16 with a loss to Biria, 2-6, 3-6.
 
Hanna defeated DePauw's Katie King 6-1, 6-3 in the Round of 64 and ultimately lost to Strupovets 2-6, 6-4, 8-10 in the Round of 32.
 
Sophomore Emily Chiasson defeated Trine's Elina Locane 6-1, 6-0 in the Round of 64 after receiving a bye in the first round. She fell to Kenyon's Shadia Amado Aguad 5-7, 7-6 (7-1), 10-7 in the Round of 32.
 
Bui received a first-round bye and defeated Ohio Northern's Jamie Hurst 6-1, 6-0 in the Round of 64. She moved on to defeat North Central's Priya Harris 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 32. Bui concluded her singles run with a loss to Oliwia Mikos, 5-7, 6-3, 8-10 in the Round of 16.
 
Edmond's defeated Kalamazoo's Addison Lyons in the Round of 64, 6-0, 6-2, after receiving a first-round bye. She moved on to beat Lopez 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 32 and wrapped up play with a loss to Ekstrand in the Round of 16, 4-6, 0-6.
 
Bui and Archer will take on the ITA Cup in two weeks and the next regularly-scheduled match for the Bears is the Redbird Invitational Nov. 2-3 at Illinois State.
