GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw against No. 22 Calvin on Monday afternoon. The Bears are now 8-0-1 on the season.
WashU had the statistical advantage, outshooting the Knights 29-7 with 11 shots on goal. The Bears also had eight corner kicks to Calvin's two.
Sophomore
Sophie Viscovich led the team with nine shots including three on frame. Junior
Grace Ehlert recorded four shots with one on goal and senior
Meryl McKenna had three shots with two on goal.
Both of first-year
Olivia Clemons' shots were on goal while first-year
Cami Colpitts recorded three shots.
McKenna registered the first shot on goal for the Bears in the 24
th minute, forcing a save from goalkeeper Kalex Dodge. First-year
Kate Martin put a shot on frame in the 28
th minute and Ehlert had one in the 30
th minute, followed by a Viscovich shot on goal in the 31
st minute. Clemons placed the final shot on goal of the first half in the 39
th minute.
Graduate goalkeeper
Sidney Conner made two saves on the day, starting with a shot from Elie Farrell in the 53
rd minute. The two met again in the 57
th minute, with Conner again making the stop.
Sophomore
Madi Foley and Clemons both placed shots on goal in the 58
th minute. In the final 15 minutes, Viscovich had a shot on goal in the 76
th and McKenna had one in the 79
th.
WashU hits the road on Wednesday for the short trip to Webster for a 6 p.m. match at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
