Five Bears Score as Men's Soccer Wins 5-0 Over Principia

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the third-straight game, the Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team scored a five-goal difference as the Bears defeated Principia on Tuesday evening at Francis Olympic Field, 5-0. Five different Bears found the back of the net on the evening as WashU improved to 5-1-1 on the season.

It did not take long for the Bears to score as just 1:10 into the contest junior Tyler Allred found sophomore Ethan Wirtschafter across the box with a lobbing pass that Wirtschafter fired past the goalie for the game-winner, putting WashU up 1-0.

It was just over 15 minutes later before sophomore Colin Link added an insurance goal at 26:56. Junior Zach Susee scored the Bears' third goal of the half off a pass from Link in the 40th minute as WashU maintained a 3-0 lead at the break.

The first half saw the Bears lead the Panthers in shots (17-1) and corner kicks (3-0).

While maintaining possession most of the final 45 minutes, WashU added two more goals in a five-minute span. Graduate Jesus Tadeo scored in the 61st minute and assisted on classmate Cole Hutson's goal in the 66th minute. The Bears held on allowing just two more shots in the half, none on goal, as WashU secured its fourth shutout of the season.

Sophomore Owen Ross picked up his third win in a row in goal with his second shutout of the season, while not needing to make a save.

At the end, the Bears had more shots than the Panthers (28-3), shots on goal (16-0), and corner kicks (6-3).

WashU is back on the road this weekend when it pays a visit to Wheaton on Saturday, September 21 for a 3 p.m. start.
